I just bought an old kustom head though and i need some help dating it. Ill tell you guys everything I know about it, and if you all wanna help out, it would be much appreciated. Its a kustom head with the black naugahyde tuck-n-roll cover. the model number is C895 and the serial number is 4765 on the front, there are 2 channels with 2 inputs each (a high and a low) the channels are not foot switchable and require flipping the switch manually. the channels seem to be identical in sound and each have a volume, treble, and bass knob layed out in a triangular shape. There is no model name on the amp, only Kustom by ROSS INC. Thats all I know about it really. I got it for 200$ on sunset blvd. in hollywood, ca. Oh yeah, and i also wanted to know if anyone knows a place to get parts for it because the light on the front is burned out. Any help is greatly appreciated =)

You have a 100 watt RMS head built about 1966-67, commonly nicknamed Frankenstein, due to the high upper tuck and roll area above the plexiglass face. The channels are not switchable like some of the new amps are now. Very basic, but whatta sound! Your unit doesn't have reverb or tremolo, so was probably part of a bass amp, but can be used for guitar or keyboards, too. Take a stroll on this site through the literature area, and you will find lots of info on it, and let us know how it sounds. They were designed to handle a 4 or 8 ohm load. I just came across a Frankenstein with 2 15 inch Jensens and one high freq horn in the color that was known as Cascade....kind of a green or teal sparkle. It is a great sounding amp now, just as it was 36 years ago. Enjoy that Kustom, and if you have more questions, just fire away, 'cause that's what this site is all about. Thrill Bill

Yeah, needless to say it does sound great. The serial number & model numbers are even handwritten in pencil. 35 years later and I can still read it! One thing though, does anyone know how to fix the light? It doesnt work anymore, and I need to find a place in LA or southern California that can work on it. --Theres no way I'm bringing it in to Guitar Center. Hah Crow

It sound like a 68 to 70 one. The burned out power lamp can replaced with a fender one.

Hi. A fender pilot lamp is 6.3 volts, it will not last long in a kustom.

A handwritten serial number in pencil will date the amp older than the 67 Frank I used to own. Sounds like one of the early ones like JC picked up in Nashville when we met Bud. 64 maybe??? It had the Chicken head knobs on it instead of the ones we are all familiar with. Bud told us some interesting tales about some of the amps with the hand written S/N's........BC
