Ok gang, I just got this k200A-4 and cab that has 15" Jenson sub and a 15" round Horn with a reading of about 14 ohms on the cabinet. I was considering replacing the horn with an 8 ohm Jbl d130 that I have. I notice the Jenson and the horn are wired to what looks like a cap, any idea's what that would be (crossover maybe?)Any recomendations for wiring the Jenson and the Jbl together or should i wait to get a matching JBL or Jenson? Thanks, John

Match your speakers. Putting different manufacturers could really have negative side effects. JBL speakers work opposite than most other manufacturers. If you hooked a small battery with the positive to the red terminal, and the negative to the black terminal on each speaker, the speaker cone will move in opposite directions. Also, the speaker movement will be different for the two manufacturers for the same amount of power. One speaker will be pushing or pulling the other and the net result will be less sound output than expected. Pick up a second JBL and be amazed. Conrad

Thanks for the info Conrad. I did find another JBL D130 on Ebay and it should be here in a week, well, I got itchy and couldnt wait, had to hook my JBL up with the Jenson. I wired them out of series so the cones move in the same direction. I guess that shouldnt hurt the speakers or the amp? The cab is reading about 5 ohms. I have to say this amp sounds sweet. OHHH Suzie Q!!! The selective boost nails that tone to a tee. It didnt come with a footswitch so I went to my neighborhood music store and got a 4 switch Peavey footswitch made for a Peavey 212 stereo Chorus that had a 7 pin din connector. I cut the din connector off. Luckily, I had an old 4 pin Mic connector left over from one of my Vox amps (it was used as an AC power connector)It fits perfectly into the connection for the footswitch on the back of the K200A4. I hooked that up after I traced the wires to the coresponding effect and WALLA, everything works, The LED lights even work with the effect, I just renamed the effects on the footswitch. I've been watching Ebay for quite some time and I don't think I've even seen an original footswitch for one of these amps come up for sale. I'm in KOOL Kustom heaven now. This amp has a great clean tone with my 325 Rickenbacker. The only problem I'm experriencing now is the Selective Boost function selector 123456 is really noisy when switching it. I hope by using it it clears up but that is anoying me, any recomendations on that? Well, i've rambled on long enough. Just want to thank everyone here, this is a great site just from reading past posts I've learned a great deal about These fine amps. John

Hi, just to clear things up. It is OK to install two different speakers in one cab, it is done all the time in stereo`s, even gibsons new line of guitar amps have a 10" and a 12" in the same cab.But they both must be phased the same. Of my two bass cabs I use, one has 1 altec 421 for lows and 1 altec 418 for mid lows and highs. The other cab has a 2 EV`s done in the same way, I can get any thing from Yes to breakin up blacktop 5 string bass lows.I have found something interesting I will pass along here.I have several old kustom 2 15 cabs and 1 new one circa 2000, which is a little larger than even the 1970 to 73 cabs. This cab is to big as far as the internal volume goes. The cab is very boomy, to much of the fundimental tone being pushed on the A/E and low B string. the smaller cabs have a more even responce. This is the reason why Ampeg went with 8 10" speakers for their 320 watt RMS SVT amp back in 69.

I agree with Steven on mixing speakers. I have CTS and Jensen 15s in my 3x15 siren cabs and it really expanded the range of the cab. Fox and I have also mixed bass and guitar 15s in a 2x15 amp set up for Keyboard use and it is great. Fox also made a 1x18 1x12 cabinet out of a 2x15 for a bass rig for a guy who plays five string....you should hear it!! BC

I'll speak out of ignorance...(always do)..but my current 2x15 cabs were loaded by my speaker recone guy...he was the one that recommended them...I have an Eminence paper cone long throw paired up with a polycone long throw subwoofer...he fully expected some sympathetic cone movement on the paper cone in response to the poly's push. I don't like these cabs as much for bass guitar, but they are loaded for PA duty and I get both a nice low round sound a decent amount of punch out of them..the rest of my punch comes from the 15 jensons heavies in my 3x15 siren cabs which are only getting the mid bass freqs anyway. I still want to try some other speakers out now that I've got a bit more power to push em with..there's a whole equation at work here, drivers, voice coil, cone edge, air requirements, wattage..heck I dunno.. I just like the way they look..fortunately, they sound good too!
