I picked up a single Kustom 150 PA column. Still looking for the other one.
The markings on the four speakers inside reads:
Danity 16F-100A, 6 1/2" 8ohm 60w Made in Taiwan R.O.C.

Would these be the original speakers for this cabinet?
And is that an 8" speaker?, because they seem smaller.
It has the "Kustom" nameplate on the grill, with the logo offset to the left of the mounting screws and raised lines in the background. Other logo's I've seen have got a smooth background with the 'Kustom' logo centered between the two screws.
Serial #41516

The literature doesn't list anything smaller than an 8" speaker or 150 watts. But these speakers say they're 60 watts. Plus I think they are blown, they sound very crackly and high pitched.

Kustom was only using CTS or Eminence brand speakers in that time frame, so those drivers are not original it would seem.

Those cabinet's used 8" drivers so I can't see how smaller ones could be used without baffle adapters.

Steven,
On the inside of the cabinet, the four speakers are mounted on a piece of plywood. And that's mounted to another piece of plywood(black). So it looks the the four speakers are remounted.

No, still looking for the PA head and other column.
What would have been the wattage, size and make of the original speakers?

What does it say on the cabinets speaker jack plate, CTS?

I posted in my reply to you that they should be 8", and rated 25 watts each minimum is good.

The 150 pa head is looking for a 8 ohm load .
Each of the original cabinets had there speakers wire for a 16 ohm load which when both cabinets where hooked up to the amp produced the needed 8 ohm load.

If you have four 8 ohm drivers you can wire them up for a 8 ohm load, but if you ever get both cabinets then all the speakers need to be 12 to 16 ohm.

With just that one cabinet of yours with the wrong speakers you are stuck between a rock and a hard place if you ever get the 150 head!

Steve,
There isn't anything written on the jackplate, it's painted black.
The four 6 1/2" speakers are bolted to a piece of panelboard and the panelboard is fitted down over the original 8" speaker bolts. The panelboard is painted black on the cone side as to not see the size difference.
It's hard to explain how they are wired but I will try. So speaker 1 is closest to the jackplate, and speaker 4 is at the top of the cabinet.
The black wire from the jackplate goes to negative on speaker 1 and to negative on speaker 3.
Red wire from jackplate goes to positive on speaker 2 to positive on speaker 4
positive on speaker 1 to negative on speaker 2
positive on speaker 3 to negative on speaker 4

So each speaker tests a 8 ohm load. and the ohm load at the jack plate is 16 ohm.
I want to convert this to a guitar amp cab. With an 8ohm load.
What 8" speakers would you recommend?, wattage? brand?

There is not much around these days in true 8" guitar speakers.
My two picks would be the Eminence brand alpha-8a model.

These are rated at 125 watts and unfortunately with today's prices run you about 70 bucks each.

A cheaper speaker you could go with would be a Jensen model CR8 in the 8 ohm version.
These are rated at 25 watts and will cost you much less.
These do not go down as low in frequency response as the Eminence model.

The Jensen ones due to there lighter cone will break up faster then the Eminence drivers if you need that for your guitar tone.

8 ohm driver would have to be wired in series parallel for you to end up with 8 ohms on the speaker jack.

So if I wanted to use this as a PA cabinet, what would you recommend as a replacement speaker?

Man, you really need to make up your mind!

In one post this is for guitar, in the next it's back to being for PA useage, lol!
For PA I would go with the Eminence drivers.
And just to head you off at the pass so to speak these would work for keyboard also.

If you had really deep pockets you might turn up 4 used JBL brand drivers, and that would be the ultimate for PA usage.

Just checking out all possibilities. LOL
Why am I getting a reading of 16ohms at the jackplate?
Each unhooked driver is reading 8ohms.
Isn't it supposed to be impossible to wire 4 8ohm speakers to get a 16ohm load?

You had posted that you wanted to use this column and have it set for 8 ohms did you not?
With 4 drivers the only easy way to do that is with 8 ohm drivers.

If you ever get both columns and the original 150 head then all 4 drivers in both columns need to be 16 ohms and your just not going to find 16 ohm drivers but for in original columns like these, or get Four 4 ohm Jensen drivers.

The 150 head that both speaker columns would have been needing a 8 ohm load.
Each column then being 16 ohm being put in parallel when plugged into the amp would make the 8 ohm load .

You need to make up your mind here!

Update:
So I put 4 Celestion Eight 15w 8ohm speakers in the column and made it a guitar cab.
8ohm at the jack. Sounds fantastic.
