After reading yesterdays posted notes on the K100 info I was so fired up that when I got home from work I went and plugged in the Gibson Blues Hawk into the Digitech GNX2 into the K200B 5 PA head with the 2 each 4X12 Cabs and proceeded to crank it up to 75%+ volume with the bass and treble on full with the reverb on about 1/3. This setting in turn was extremely loud to be even painful but of course very cool. Turning the volume back to 50% got rid of the noticeable distortion while maintaining a nice level of pure mean loudness. The Question is with using these new Digitech GNX's with the Kustoms does the 44.1 kHz output signal pose as an input problem or theat and what about using other fuzz and compression type stomp boxes going into these amp head units that were originally made for PA use? Any tips and info on past experience from the all you great Kustom experts is always appreciated!

Thanks, Smoke1

hey buddy...sounds like a way cool rig ya got there...I'm not familiar with your outboard unit so I can't speak to its actual output source...but here's what I have found through the years..

Digitec Legend II - hot as hell, but no problem on the kustom input.

Marshall JMP-1 midi tube preamp - great product..but have to run it with the -20db pad cause straight out on the line it's designed to enter into a DI and pa console...it did blow a couple of my kustoms..first time out of my own ignorance...the second time cause I bumped and forgot to check the button.

All other pedals that I've run that stay under 15db gain seem to be ok by the kustoms.

I regularly use a boss parametric for guitar as part of my pedal board and run it as much as 8db hot plus the other overdrive signals...no problem.
I also run a boss bass eq pedal in front of my bass rigs..it can bump by 15...but I never run it that hot..I just kick the different freqs til I find the optimum settings for the room, the cabs, and my axe...when the amp gets dirty I back it off and that's my limit.

congrats on your really cool rig...love to hear guys are pushing that much tuck n roll. Play Loud! ET

Adding my two cents worth. I run the Digitech RP1 processor pedal which is 10 years old now. The settings for input and output are at 10 o'clock on the pedal, I also run a Ross compressor and a wah pedal before the RP1 processor. I also have the Roland GR-33 synth pedal connected and the Roland ready strat all running into a Kustom K50 single 12 amp. The amp settings are volume at 9 or 10 o'clock, treble at noon and bass full on. It is all one can handle for stage use. The amp handles the synth and the settings from the RP1 with great tone, no distortion from the amp, I let the processor add the overdrive. I have been using this same amp for 4 years now, and I just got done doing a gig with a 3x12 kustom cabinet with the K100-5 PA head, same pedal setup, same settings, I just had to keep the volume down to 9 o'clock in a club that seats 250. I have played outdoor events with the K50, even used the K100-1 head with a 2x12 kustom cabinet loaded with celestions, I have never been told to turn up with any of my kustom amp combinations. I think with a processor pedal in front of any kustom amp, a amp setting of 11 o'clock would be very, Very loud. I have never had any problems over driving the pre amps of any kustom I have owned.

Thanks for all the great Info. When you say 9'O clock on volume my K200 knobs actually start zero at 6 O'clock and when I move them 1/3 on to the 9-10 O'clock and it's all I really need and like you say the accessary pedals/GNX2 do the rest. Will experiment more this weekend and play loud or louder if I can get the girls to get out of the house! Looks like alot of rain coming to us here in Southern Maryland tonight. Be Jammin" in the Rain.

Hi, I think you must be talking about the gnx2 sampling rate or something. 44 KHZ is at least 20 KHZ above the hearing range of a person over 40 years of age, and 35 KHZ above the average guitar speakers frequence responce range.

I think your right. I was just reading that 44.1 kHz number off the spec sheet and didn't really know what that was! I was told that all guitars and effects boxes each have their own output of millivolts. ET says/describes this in increments of dB on his note when using his effects. I am just concerned that pushing more input power wattage/millivolts/dB's into these Kustom amp inputs with this newer technology may harm the amp. I'm not much into doing my own electronic work. I'm mechanical enough to work on most things like jet airplanes and some car work but I have 2 good electronics techs here who fix my stuff and their good with the vintage stuff which makes it nice. I did however comma fry my 77" Sunn Amp transistors when I plugged the GNX2 in that for the first time. From what you all say is that I shouldn't worry about effects inputs into the Kustoms and that they can take it and keep on playin' LOUD. Thanks Again!

The 44.1KHz figure is the number of times per second the signal gets sliced up into a 2 number value. Digitally, the signal is represented by both the frequency and the amplitude. this is done at 44,100 times per second. The signal is then processed digitally and put back into an analog form, filtered and sent out to your amp. The 44.1KHz CANNOT be heard. First it is above any human hearing range, secondly it is filtered out and third, your amps speaker will not reproduce it under any circumstances. The impedance would be too high and it wouldn't draw any current.

Hello. Kustoms are great amps by themselves and with pedals, though i seem to take a more spartan effect route than what many of you take. With my K200-B6 (which i use for bass with either a 100 series 1x15 CTS cab or one or two 2x15 CTS cabs), I almost never use any effects, unless I want a John Entwistle style drive, for which i either use an Ibanez Tubescreamer or a Boss Bass Overdrive. I also use a DOD Envelope Filter on occasion for fun. The head takes it just fine and i even get some nice feedback (as opposed to squealing, chainsaw on a chalk-board feedback). On my K200-A5 PA head (which I use for guitar through either its 2x15 Jensen cab or an Orange 4x12), i usually just use a Boss DS-1 or a Tubescreamer and it sounds awesome. I know these amps are very well built, but i always keep the effect volume down to where it equals the clean volume, if not less to be safe. With a Gibson SG and an overdrive or distortion pedal, these things sing and blast better than my friends Marshall AVT FULL-STACK! I get better sustain with less than half the speakers, amazing. Anyway i'll stop ranting and raving so you guys can get back to playing with your amps. That's why we're here! Laughing

On bass I'm not too big on effects but on guitar now I can get a little wild at times. You have to make sure you don't over do it with effects and its easier to do than you might think.
