Called Frankenstein or wide panel because of the wider brow or forehead panel on the front. The L in the model number refers to the fact that it originally came with JBL speakers. The 795 was the original list price. The schematic for this amp refers to it as model 96000, the basic amp with no effects. It is rated at 100 watts rms. The amp was probably made in 1966 or 1967. If you know the serial number, Les Strickland has posted a list of numbers and years on this board that will be more precise. Some guys prefer the sound of the Frankensteins over that of the more common B-series, as they are entirely different design wise. Personally, I own 3 Franks and just got my first 200 B-1 so I will soon be able to compare and contrast. Lately on eBay, Franks have been in the $150-$250 range, depending on color, condition and model. All Kustom amps in good working order, are loud and reliable, and great looking on stage too. I think they are a great basic amp for bass or guitar. Bill Report message to a moderator

Do be advised that if the rig has never had maintenance that you really should expect it to be due...filter caps, etc may be leaky...none of the repairs on these amps are hard to do..and you can pretty much refurb the whole thing for under $75....if that is a music store sticker on the front...they likely don't have more than $50 in it...if you can buy it for $75 - $100, then even after repairs you're in good shape and will have great amp...just be prepared to start the madness of looking for matching cabs and wanting the next kustom...its an illness... I'm not sure what that sticker is on front, I haven't gone in to the store to see it yet. I'm still thinking about it, and I don't want the temptation. It's a consignment shop though, so you can't really haggle, and they're asking $175. I think that seems a little high, honestly. But I don't know. Maybe not. Report message to a moderator
