New Smoke EQ Topic Question of the Week for my Favorite Kustom Berbers,
Where is the Bestest place to use an External EQ pedal or rack EQ unit? 1. After your effects pedals & before it goes to the Amp? 2. Or EQ Before your pedals after leading out from your guitar? 3. And Will effects units/pedals Kill an EQ unit with too much power input?
Give me some of that Great Kustom Knowledge and Wisdom O' Wise Ones?

As far as pedal type EQs go it doesnt much matter, but you will have the most control if you place it after what ever other effects you are using. That will let you compensate for any negative EQ happenings that might be brough on by the preceding pedals. If you are not driving your amp into signal over load now with what you are using, than you will not clip the EQ either. Rack mount type EQs may be a differnt story, most of the ones that use XLR type input and out puts are low impedance and are made to take line level signal, some 4 to 6 times hotter than the output of a guitar. Plus since they are made for balanced input, going in to it unbalanced high impedance will give you a 3 DB signal loss right their. If you want the most control, get a 31 band rack mount EQ, 2 low to hi impedance transformers and hook in inbetween the preamp and power amp section of you amp. you would be all set if the kustom had a effects in and out jack.
agree..definitely place it after your fx...especially when you consider compression/sustain fx...you want only your guitar signal to be hitting that piece of the tone chain....my main pedal board has a parametric programmable eq built in...and that's fine for getting settings close to right...but I wind up on different amps...my own variety of kustoms...or who knows what on a national stage...and then there's room size, stage size, volume allowances...etc...so I keep a Boss parametric eq pedal in my chain..at the end...the idea being that I can kick it in if needed, and make very quick knob adjustments to compensate for a particular amp/room,etc.....they are great pedals..nice sweepable midrange, solid presence,etc...check em out before you go too deep into a major eq rack...quick n easy..that's my stage motto...

I just got a USED 10 BAND sTEREO eq and have one of those cheap DiNolectric pedals that works fairly well. I'm doing some drywall action downstairs and put all my toys away from the dust for a few weeks. You do know that drywall work is the worst of all remodeling jobs. Yuck! the mess really sucks so in the interest of protecting the gear I moved it all out and am jammin upstairs in the guest room. Thanks for the advise.
