K200 + rack EQ= ???? [message #5699] Fri, 15 April 2005 01:01   voided3 Messages: 200 Registered: July 2004 Senior Member Hello. I have found a great, fairly compact amp setup for guitar, being my K200-B6 and my Traynor 2x15. I would like to have a little more control over the tone of the amp (though it sounds great as is, I use about every variety of guitar under the sun from les pauls and SGs to telecasters and strats). I thought what mgiht work well would be by Shure SR107 rack EQ from around 1978. I haven't tried it with this amp before, but when I tried it through another one of my amps, it had a humming noise in the background (not from the amp, but the EQ), though the sound otherwise was great. It has a response from 30 Hz to 20 kHz so I figured it would be a good shaping tool, but is the buzzing from worn components or an impedance problem (even though it has high and low impedance inputs)? Should I just forget about using it and go for something like a Boss EQ pedal? Thanks! Report message to a moderator

If that has no effect, then seeing that its coming up to 30 years old it may be time to replace the powersupply elecrolitic caps. Also do not forget that since you are running a balanced output into the amps un-balanced in put, you are loosing half of what ever the output level you set the EQ at. So what happens is the small normal amount of power supply hum when running balanced, becomes twice as loud running un-balanced! Report message to a moderator
