Member I have a K200 B-1 head with a 2x15 CTS cab. now I've had this for some time now but I've been doing some recordings and when i mic the amp all you can hear is hissing and if i use a DI. 1: it doesn't sound right and 2: the hissing is still there if i put a 3 prong AC. plug on the amp (really don't want to) would it take care of some of the hiss? and if so how should i go about replacing the ac cord I know there are posts on here about this I'm just to lazy to find it! anyway how can i figure out how old my amp is? it seems to be at least late 60's (if kustom has been around that long) because it has on the badge "Kustom by Ross" and the CTS speakers are the original speakers and they do not have the aluminum dust cap (or speaker core) and the magnets are square not round Report message to a moderator

The B series 200s were made between late 68 and early 72 if i am not mistaken. The three prong didn't make a huge difference in my amps noise wise, but they sure are a heck of a lot safer! I would highly reccomend it; all you essentially have to do is swap out the cord and bolt a ground lug to the chassis. On my K200B-6, I had to disconnect the orange cap between the switch and the ground though because I was getting ground loop hum. Good luck and I would highly recommend just using the search function and enter "3 prong cord." There are a few posts about it that are very helpful. I record as well; I use a K200A-5 with a pair of CTS 2x15s for guitar and the small ammount of background noise doesn't bother me too much. If you filter out the extreme highs in the EQ on the recorder (10,000 hZ and above) the noise may go away substancially. Good luck! Report message to a moderator
