I'm new to this board, and find it to be excellent. Speaking of hiss and noise....... I have a Commander model 28-L that I just pulled out of storage in my closet, and plan to pass it on to one of the grandsons who is an up an coming guitar player. Been many years since I've fired this thing up ( gigged with it years ago ), but I didn't remember the hiss / noise that it currently exhibits. With the volume set at about 12:00, it is becoming very noticeable. Maybe it is because I'm playings with amps now that are very quiet... and the noise coming from the Commander just seems loud. This is not a buzz.... just a type of hiss I'd say. Reading some of the posts in the forum, I get the impression the the early Kustoms were noisy.... and I just don't remember. Anyway, I am gonna replace the power cord with a modern 3 prong.... I've done that on other pieces of equipment previously. So.... How much noise do you think I should tell the grandson.... that is just the sound of a "vintage amp" !!!!

Hi, All Kustoms have some level of hiss(white noise) even more so if you have the brite swt on. The metal face amps where a little better in that reguard than the 100s and 200s and plexi face 150s.As long as the hiss is well below the level of your guitar, I would not be too concerned. It could also be that when you where last using it all the time playing your ears where under attack from the SPLs, and in responce you has a temporary loss if high end responce and did not notice the hiss as much.

Good job! Thats one thing that people miss on a hiss problem is that swt feature on all the input jacks. If that swt does not short out the channel that you are not using, and that channels controls are up you get all that extra preamp hiss.
