always a risk for sure..but with the K100..assuming the amp is in tact...it can fail for a dozen reasons...most of which should cost you under $45 including labor to fix. Here is what I always do when I'm snagging a used amp...I assume, whether its advertised as working or not, that there will be leaking caps, etc and that in order for me to actually trust it to be gig ready I will need to overhaul the amp. My local amp tech can usually do this for me for under $80..with the exception of reverb if the pan contact posts are shot. Since I get my wet fx from my pedal board I have passed on fixing the reverb on a couple rigs. I recently bought an SC212 combo...similar guts to the K100. The combo was listed as dead but in tact. $35 had it back to top operating specs and it sounds great. The thing to remember so you don't get your feelins hurt is that we are at the age on most of the rigs that is thresholding the shelf life of the transistors...expect even a working amp to start to fold on you...butthe good news is that kustoms are a clean basic design...easy to work on and most anything in them can be replaced for less than the cost of a set of NOS tubes for those other amps. Go for the cosmetics first...if the tuck n roll is clean...thats the real trick...ET!
