I'm the original owner of a 1971 Vintage Kustom K200 B-1 2x15 bass amp (so I'm on this site legitimately). I recently purchased a Kustom '36 Coupe. It is a fantastic amp! Great tone and features. Plus the attention to vintage details is also great. There's a little tuck'n'roll. The control knobs, amp markings, handle, logo, and grill cloth all hark back to the 70's.

James Brown (formerly of Peavey, designer of 5150) went over from Peavey to Kustom and designed the Coupe Series. I recently heard that two more engineers also went from Peavey to Kustom.

This gives me hope that Kustom will regain its rightful spot in the amp marketplace.

P.S.: Bud is mentioned and credited often in the new Kustom's literature.

Any reviews I have seen always give great scores to these new models. The only thing I would do once your warranty runs out would be to change out all the powersupply in the amp as I did with my 2001 100 watt tube model that Kustom had. these caps they use are rather inexpensive, and replacing them with good sprage model atom caps, and bypassing the cap for the first preamp section with a .22 MFD 600 volt cap makes a world of difference when you are playing the amp at a volume where the circuit is calling for a good amount of current from the powersupply.

hey there..all kustom talk I think is welcome ..anything that carries forward the legacy has to be good right?
and yes.. I talk with James Brown several times a year...original contacts go back to PV days..and flame me..but the fact is.. I have always had a lot of respect for many things PV...and James has been a major reason why several of their tube models are so good..the 5150 as you mentioned..but even more important has been their tweed classic series 30,50,100 models and the reason I say that is that they have made a place for themselves in the pro market without really having a name associated with them. For those that don't know me... I own a backline rental biz so we get most of the nationals that come this way...and yes..that means I have plenty of fender, marshal, mesa, vox, etc...but the PV Classic 50 4x10 actually gets as many rider requests as anything else..including the fender twin. for a production amp...the CL50 is without a doubt a tremendous value..and if I had to tour today with a more contemporary amp (couldn't use my kustoms) I'd go out with the PV classics personally...all that said to say that James is a major force in the current production amp market and my loyalty is to him..not to PV or the new kustom folks. I truly hope James new creation catch on and that nationals start to ask for them..cause I'd like an excuse to own some. Personally. I'm set on amps for my next 3 lives and I'm such a die-hard plexi kustom guy...but to also be truthful...once a week my son holds jammtime at his house..and more often than not.. I'm just grabbing a guitar and a little amp..no pedals (which are a must for my old kustoms)..so I usually just grab a lil PV classic 30 and go...plug straight in..groove tubes..nice overdrive/sustain and decent verb dwell...that's what I get from a James Brown amp..and what I'd expect from the new coupes...
