I just bought a Kustom 150-2 and know very little about this set up.. My problem is when I play through it and I set the volume up to about 5 the low B string on my bass rattles the speakers really bad... As the band plays in Drop D a lot, is there a solution like setting up the tone controls or something or is this just the nature of the 2-12's which have been replace in the last year with minimal play time on them...I have always used a 15 or 18...I have been trying to "dial" it in but no luck as of yet and I want to use it on the gig tomorrow... Any advice??? Thanks
At five you are at or close to the maximum clean output of the amp. Generally on the Kustoms, you hit full volume around 4. It is 75 watts RMS which might not be enough for you depending on your speakers. What speakers and what cabinet do you have? What ohms are the speakers?
A lot of cabinets have trouble with bass notes that low. Also try running the bass control at 12 o'clock or lower.

Hi, 2-12 inch speakers are real not the way to go for a 5 string bass, even 12 pro model woffers have a hard time moving that much air and most of them need above 300 watts in a big cabinet to do it. That low B string is at 30 cycles or so, and most 12 inch speakers start to lose SPL level real fast by around 70 to 50 cycles if they are guitar speakers. You need at least a 15 incher that will go down to 40 cycles in a good ported cabinet. And if you are playing out with a hard hitting drummer 2 15s would be better. I have not tested my K150 as I have my others yet, to truly find out if they put out more wattage at 8 ohms or 4 ohms. I will set mine up over the week end and put up a post on it monday to let you all know. For playing you can rent a power amp and a cab since the head has a jack to drive a power amp.
This might be the strangest answer you guys have ever heard - but do you have all of the screws on the back panel screwed into the cabinet? When I bought my Kustom, it only had about 7 of the 30 (give or take a few) screws/washers screwed into the holes in the cabinet. And whenever I played it at higher volume, the amp would rattle like crazy. At first I thought it was the speakers, but then I had someone play through it while I really inspected it - and it turned out that it was the back panel rattling the whole time. I replaced the screws/washers in all of the holes, and the problem was immediately solved. That being said - I have a 2X15 cabinet that I play bass through - so your problem might be completely different since you're running through 2 12's.

I took the Kustom and a Peavy TKO 80 to the gigs... I ran the tape out on the Kustom to the Peavy and rolled back the lows and some of the mids on the Kuston. Gave it a reall brite and punchy sound and then dialed in the lower freqs on the Peavey... Made for a heck of a rig... I was able to compete with a Marshall and a Butcher with 4 12 cabs... My complements on the Kustom, really ended up liking it... My next question is what is the average cost of this amp set up... 150-2 slant face (1971) with matching cab 2-12 tuck and roll is in excellent shape and head is very clean...

It depends, 400 to 500 if someone has a bad enough itch for it.If you 2 12 cab is the one with jensen speakers, the C12N model, those are worth 150 to 200 each alone!
