K150-SC 410 [message #7145] Fri, 07 July 2006 12:20   oldnavycdr Messages: 38 Registered: July 2006 Location: Sanford, NC Member After coming across a few vintage T&R amps on eBay I stumbled on this site and was so inspired that I picked up two sweet things. The first is a blac K-100 with the single D-140F and the second is '72 (?) K150-8 SC 4-10, ser 80816. The odd thing about the SC is that it has no casters, only the metal button "feet." Was this typical of that model/year? Were casters optional towards the end of the Chanute operation? I would like to put the casters on as the buttons are very rusted and have seen them on both eBay and the postings recommending Grainger. What do you think, casters or no? As for the speakers, are those CTS or Jensen? They have the silver dust caps without the black hole/dot in the middle. Any other thoughts or comments on the amp? The T&R is near mint! Great site! I'm glad to be aboard. Oh, and having grown up in Kansas I know that Bud put that little town of Chanute on the map. They still talk about him with great pride. Re: K150-SC 410 [message #7146 is a reply to message #7145] Fri, 07 July 2006 12:48   stevem Messages: 4733 Registered: June 2004 Location: NY Senior Member Hi and welcome.Nice amps to find, good for you!Yes the Kombos speakers are alnico magnet CTSs, the same ones minus the aluminum dust caps that fender supereverb restorers will pay 125 bucks or more a pop for, and they are just as fragile even with out the age factor so treat them with love.Kustom kombo amps never came with casters untill the 70s metal face SC models went into production. I have casters that a prevous owner of my k100 kombo with 4-10s put on, and the amp being so short in depth makes it easy to tip over so you may just want to make a nice carpeted dolly that will locate the amp from falling off the dolly when moving it. The 4x10 combos were not very deep, so I think that could be why Kustom did not put casters on them. Your K-100 1x15 is a bass combo amp – the cabinet is deeper than a guitar cabinet and so casters work better. Your K150-8 was made late Jan/early Feb 1972. Report message to a moderator

Re: K150-SC 410 [message #7151 is a reply to message #7145] Sat, 08 July 2006 20:55   edforgothispassword Messages: 202 Registered: July 2004 Senior Member hey and welcome to the greatest bunch on the planet... the 4x10 never came with castors..although I've seen some with them added..and sometimes guys were even good enough to add the correct shrouded chrome ones...the 1x12, 2x10, and 4x10 models did not have castors..however, the 1x15 and the 2x12 did come originally with them. the SC series first came out with a 100 amp (except for the 1x12 which came as a K25-c and a K50)...the oldest run of your 4x10, as well as the 2x12 combos can be quickly spotted as they only have 2 slots on the back panel...then they went to 4 slots..and then later you'll see the amp power ratings go up and the 150 series... I'd pull those speakers and make better use or cash from them..although i do still have one of my units loaded with them...the 4x10 is very thin so you don't get a lot of low end from the rig..however...it actually can provide a very natural guitar voice range and can play loud enough to keep up on stage next to the drums... I have a pair of them in blue sparkle.. I run a boss pedal board in stereo to them..and its heaven... I"m looking at trying some Weber Californian with the optional chrome dust cap...basically their version of the old jbl...I like my kustoms to run as loud n clean as they can..then I get my distortion/overdrive from my pedals..I also have a 4x10 in black..they are wonderful amps.
