Gentlemen..Ladies,,,just bought my first Kustom---I am finally part of this great CLUB of owners...I've got the bug!! Traded a Peavey T-60 for a Kustom head....I need some help with maybe year and model. No numbers on the plexi..just says Kustom, by Ross. Two channels, reverb/tremolo on channel 1, and basic bass, volume, treble on both. Has high/low inputs both channels. Black hyde...model # J 595 Rv, serial # 5524...Someone please help me with this head's identity and background. It plays GREAT! Blue light even works!!

Congratulations ! The J-595 is pictured in the 1966 catalog under "Literature" and the 100/200/400 button on the site. The 1966 catalog is the Blue on e in the lower left hand corner. Page 3 pictures a Gold J-595. The J of the designation denotes Jensen, which means the head was originally sold with a Jensen cab. The 595 designates the list price of the unit (head and cab). It clearly made more sense for Kustom to begin designating the heads by a separate model number and to use a model number tied to features such as output rather than price. The J-595 is an 11-pleat wide early head also described as a Frankenstein head becaus of the high "forehead". Many other visitors to rthe site can better advise on thegreat tone of this early head. JC Shane in fact has a nera complet set (all colors) of the Frankenstein series. Dan
