How do you tell the difference between the Lead III and Lead IV Cabinet? The tag on the back only says "412L". And I'm not sure, but I think there are no brand labels on the speakers. Are they hard to spot or am I just blind?

I`am not 100% sure but I think both heads got the same cabinet, of which both would have eitheir CTS or Eminence brand speakers. The CTS code would start with the ink stamping 67- than 3 or 4 digets, like 7345, which would be the 45th week of 1972.

Sorry, 137 is the CTS code, 67 is the eminence code, 220 is the jensen code.

I checked all the serials on the cabinet tag and also the numbers stamped on the back of the speakers. Does it say anything to anyone?

Cab:
CHANUTE, KANSAS
Kustom 4-12 L
Serial number 157819
Pat. no. 210, 129

Speakers:
038-0079-00
8-16 Ohms
29563
2857804

What do all these numbers mean? Anyone got a clue?

It looks like this: http://www.broadwaymusicco.com/kuskat033.jpg

And btw, I'm not sure what it would be worth. I'm thinking around $200. What do you reckon?

Hi,
The 285 means the speaker brand is Rola.
The 7804 is the production date of the speaker: 4th week of 1978

The value depends on the condition. To be worth $200 it would need to be in very good or excellent condition.

Thank you for your reply!

It's at least in very good condition, and since musical gear tends to get a higher price here (in Sweden) than in the states, I think I'll at least try to get around $200 for it.

Thanks again!

Hey Les, I do not think that the 2857804 number is related to the rola manufacturer code, as I have in one of my 2-15 cabs what is oveously a CTS square magnet driver with numbers of 038- whatever, and its a reconed driver with a Kustom sticker on it.

my guess would be that these speakers labled like that where used only in the 4-12 cabinets, as you could get a 4 ohm main load from four 8 ohm drivers, or four 16 ohm drivers depending on how your wired them.

A speaker rated as "8 - 16 ohms" should be considered to be a 16 ohm speaker.

The 8-16 ohms rating means "16 ohms but a little on the low side".

A speaker rated as 8 - 16 ohms with a meter will measure about 10 to 10.5 ohms - where the average 16 ohm speaker will measure 11 to 14 ohms.

So it is no big deal - just consider it to be 16 ohms.
