I was thinking the other day that I'd like to own a black 3x15 rig some day (that's one of rigs that made an impression on me back in the day, and I've been having a desire lately to own some of the guitars and amps that most impressed me when I was young). Well, whaddyaknow, I was driving through a tiny town in Louisiana yesterday, on my way home from visiting family, and spotted a black Kustom in the window of a music store. I think it's a 3-15C or 3-15J1 - it has the breakers on the front panel, and only four knobs per channel, no metal domes on the speakers. I found the guy on the Internet and emailed him, his response was that he "thinks" the speakers are good and the amp works, and he wants $750 for it. Now I know that's WAY too much, but what do you guys think a fair price would be for such a rig? A few of the knobs were non-original, and it looked like it had a few miles on it, though I didn't see any serious cosmetic damage. There were cobwebs between the bottom of the cab and the floor, so it's apparently been there a loooong time. I doubt I'll go for this one, but figured I'd get some opinions here, in case a similar opportunity presents itself.

Well if its the Jensen loaded cab, those drivers are worth at minimum 100 bucks each and I have seen them go for 150 bucks each.
Their where not many of the C15L Jensens drivers made.
If it works and is not ratty, its worth 550 to 600.

OK guys, I have just finished building a pair of red 3x15 siren 3-way cabinets. JBL E140, JBL E130, and the original siren horn. Now I have 4 original C15J speakers that I need to get rid of. Any takers???? I would rather not put them on Ebay. Also, the horn drivers appear to be 8 ohm. I thought they were 16. These are original non port hole, A series cabinets with 4 2" ports. I think I need to chamber off the cabs to reduce the volume for the 1 low frequency driver and separate the low and the mid, maybe using the horn volume for a reduced volume 2x15 size. Anyone else try this? I do triamp the entire rig, but I haven't made any crossover adjustments yet. I need to set this thing up and play a little bit. I used it for 1 gig and it really sounded sweet.

I finished the second column the same day I needed it for a small evening gig. I won't go into that, but let's just say it was "interesting". I didn't even test them. I set it up with the same crossover frequencies as my 2 3x15 siren's and 2 4x12 columns. I'm sure the crossover points should be changed but that should be adjusted for every room and I don't do that either. I'm just lazy. The lows were a bit muddy but the mids really made the sound. I should see what they can do. I am debating whether I should isolate the mids from the lows. I don't want the 130's to be pushed by the 140's. I don't really want a passive radiator out of an active speaker. You have mentioned before that you have mismatched speakers with good results but I don't think you were bi-amping the rig.

PS I'm using a Neutrik 8 pole conncetor mounted in the same jack plate as the old Switchcraft 1/4". Makes for a really easy setup. 1 cord per speaker into 1 connctor at the amp rack. If I could post pictures I would.

No, I do not bi-amp with etheir of my altec 421/418 loaded or EVM B/L loaded cabs, I think the rear wave of the 140 affecting the 130 in your rig may be more of a issue since you are pumping more full range thru it than just my bass in mine, but I can not say for sure. But I have seen many hi fi cabs with a mid and bass driver in the same cab and all they did was staple a good packed sheet of fiberglass insulation over the mid driver.
We use the speakon`s all the time here even, in quick disconnect board room systems for shade and blackout/lighting hook ups.The new male ends as of the last 4 years or so are a real pain in the ass to open up again to get to the wire screws!
