Hi folks,
1st post. I just picked up a K200B5, charcoal, in decent shape, sort of matches my 2x12 charcoal bottom (in great shape). It has a hiss to it, and the 3rd channel is barely audible, but my question is, does anyone have a Radio Shack bulb number for the pilot light? (I searched but found nothing for the K200B5)
Thanks,
ugmold

Hi ugmold,

The bulb you need is an 1829.

It is 28 volts 70ma
(#1819 is 28 volts 40ma and will work but is not as bright as #1829)
Radio Shack carries only the #1819 bulb...their number is 272-1119 and it sells for $1.79.
Do not use a 6.3 volt bulb, it will make the resistor run too hot.

The output of the transformer is 42 volts - a 200 ohm resistor is wired in series with the bulb that reduces the voltage down to 28 volts.

I saw it, along with the chrome tubes. Didn't have the cash after buying the head and cab.

So do these heads, K200b5, humm/hiss a bit normally. I know its old, but wonder if it can be hushed.

I am also curious about 4 jacks on the right side of the back. 1 RCA and 3 others that I thought were added, but the wiring looks original inside. My guess is the RCA is for reverb, the others???

Thanks much,

ugmold

A little hiss is normal, these amps should only hum when you have the reverb turned up.
You can releave some of the hiss if you have the first 2 gain stages/transistors replaced with modern ones that make less hiss.
The RCA jack is a record output that can drive another amp should you ever want to, the two jacks nearest each other are the speaker outputs, the other jack is for the reverb foot switch.

Thanks,

Is it easy to swap the transistors? Or are they in the circuit boards?

BTW: The back of mine (will try to post a pict later) has 2 outs, upper left top, then 1 rca top right and on the right side, unevenly are 3 more 1/4 inch jacks.

No, the transistors are on circuit boards, you would have to remove the control knobs to get access to the nuts that hold the boards to the face of the amp, and then unsolder them to do the swap.
It sounds like somebody has added extra jacks to the back, if they are hook up to something I would have to see a picture to see where the wires go.Than I may be able to guess what the jacks are for.
