Kustoms in Indianapolis [message #911] Sun, 07 October 2001 23:31   RoyC Messages: 97 Registered: April 2000 Location: East Central Illinois Member What a week-end! The tuck n' roll made an impressive impact at the guitar show, dominating that corner of the exposition hall at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Don and I counted 87 pieces of tuck n' roll. I heard many people exclaim "Wow, I had one of those!" or "they look like pieces of candy lined up" or "can ya still get one of those?". Nice compliments. The back wall was occupied by the 3x12's, 3x15's,the siren cabs, half a dozen Frankenstein's, the ever-imposing folded 18's, the p.a. columns, and other tall beauties. In front of that were the 100's, the gold's, 3 blues, a couple of cascades,and a black beauty. Charcoal, too. I probably missed some ... a LOT of 100's. In front of that were the SC's, Dan's beautiful cascade ported 1x15 100 (I think), my nearly matching blue one, a black 2x12 150, 2 black 2x10 150's, a red 4x10 and a charcoal K50 that sounded awesome hooked up to a Ross distortion box. 'Twas a joy to watch Don play some very tasty stuff on that K50. In front of the amps were 2 tables covered in white vinyl tablecloth, decorated with Kustom literature and Kustom Klocks. That same table also served as an operating table, with technicians BC and JC changing speakers in a K200 cab, and also swapping reverb pans between 2 ampheads on Sunday a.m. (they might have swapped them back again, I wasn't keeping track). I think the patients thrived following the varied procedures. A couple of new Kustom-a-holics joined in on the fun -Hayden, J.O. and KomboKing were 3 new faces, and I really enjoyed socializing (kustomizing?) with them. As good a time as I had, it was tempered by the fact that some friends I'd made at Nashville couldn't make the trip, and Bud as well. I'm still on my adrenaline rush, although I suspect I'm starting to ramble. I'll get off of here and let somebody else post. This post is meant to entertain and inform, not to make those who weren't there feel bad. We missed you people. There were at least 3 cameras there, so hopefully we'll get to see some pics soon. The new faces really helped out, but we all missed the ones who couldn't make the trip this time. Brad wants to do it next weekend again, so I'm up for it. We meet at my house this time. I just got the organs unloaded. The hit of the show was a kustom silver vest a dealer brought in for the gang to model. I was the only one who it would fit. I think it must have shrank over the years. I really think the only pieces of kustom gear we sold was to others in our group. I ended up with a mint charcoal K50 and Dan got the cover from it. I also dragged home a red kombo 100 with the 2x12 bottom and a red k100-8 4x10. Now with the reds I justed click my heels together and off to gigs I go. Really thought we missed all that didn't make it, but I was thinking, if more had brought amps, we would have been stacking 3x15's one top of one another. Roy was doing some nice stuff on his LP and nails zeppelin. JC has the pictures of the vest. JO from AZ. and kombo king from Ky. it was really great meeting you both, and you both have great adventures in the hunt for tuck and roll. Hey I just had a thought, Hunting season for tuck and roll lasts all year long, no expiration dates. I wound up with one of the black 2 10 combos in an elaborate trade involving my gold 100 top...Ropy and Don are right, most of the "sales" activity was amonst ourselves. Re: Kustoms in Indianapolis [message #915 is a reply to message #914] Tue, 09 October 2001 10:09 Anonymous well I"ve seen some pics from JC...(oh thank you thank you!!) and wow you guys had a lot more space than I imagined..it looked really great...well organized..a real show off! and I know that it was the feature at the show...JC I hope you've got good contacts with the show host as I would hope now that they see us as a great addition and would want us back with some further consideration on space and booth pricing. Chip tells me the run is not as long as I thought looking at the map...I understood it to be about a 14 hour haul..but he says that would include a couple music store stops on the way so put me down for an Indy next year if that worked well for most of you..its certainly one of the more notable shows still going although I hear alot about Phily too...we probably should defer to Chip for some help on this. And looks like Chip did ok as a dealer by making some great kustoms available to you guys...if I'd known everyone still had all this toy money to spend... well I guess I best go pawn shop hoppin and find me some more red kustoms...can't imagine anyone wanting a red amp...but as my grandma used to always say.."every man to his own taste said the woman who kissed the cow.."...no really, used to say that. I am still reeling with the fun and all the toys.....I do not think I have found them all yet. Meeting J.O. and the Kombo King was great....more good people to a really good group! I DID drive the hearse....but next time I will take more gear...so I can not buy so much. We really missed our old friends who could not make it.....but not enough to slow us down.....and there were three RED amps that changed hands. I purchased a pair of 421-A Altecs from JC and I am impressed. I really cranked them at rehearsal tonight...and they will see action outside this Sat. I also plugged into Dan's 1x15 Altec rig and I may be turning into an Altec guy! Nice amp Dan! Y'all shoulda been there! BC! Report message to a moderator

Just want to echo all the comments made by all who attended the show. As a first-timer (virgin?) I was totally amazed by the fact that such great friendships could begin because of some silly little spark-ly amplifiers we all were first introduced to over thirty years ago! JC...thanks for the organizing effort and great, complete set of 100's. BC and KomboKing...thanks for the spirited conversation and comraderie. Roy...our ride back to the hotel was great...I now really get the "inside" coolness to your posts about playing through this tuck'n'roll gear. Special thanks to Dan for including some of his family (Hi Patti/Hayden!) at the event. And as for Don, until a corner of my music room is occupied by a small, spark-ly, red thing that says "100" on it, there is only one topic we have to discuss! Anyway, let this be testement to all K-persons out there who could not attend this year's event that it certainly is worth planning to get to the next. Less because of all the cool stuff, but because this is the greatest group of fun people on the planet! JO Report message to a moderator
