Ok guys...time to get serious about this...the iron is hot for Bud and Andy Ross to participate with us..and I just spoke with Jim Reynolds a show sponsor listed on VG with a couple shows this year...I wanted to get an idea of how receptive a show sponsor would be to having us come in. I explained it as follows: We would like a display area, not a booth..and not a booth charge...it would be for display only and if some of us wanted to sell we would go in together and rent an actual booth for that express purpose. Our display area would be just that during show hours, but we would have access to the facility after hours on Sat nite so we could have our jam session and a Q&A time meeting with Bud etc. He said Nashville fair grounds would be great because they have a second room that he doesn't normally rent there with a sliding door that would close off the rest of the show after hours to keep the dealers from being nervous. I asked about the Kansas show ...he said that one is postponed for now...I think we are seeing that other than the majors...there is a wayning interest in dealers to come to these shows...its a tough life and the web makes so much more sense. Anyway I've explained to him that we have not established a date nor a location yet and that I was simply wanting to understand how a show holder would view us...looks like no VIP fee, nor booth charge would be levied on us... for our part, we should look for help from the folks at Vintage Guitar to help promo this with an article..maybe see of the boys of FLipp would consider coming in for a brief..milk and cereal concert and I want to make arrangements with Uniroyal on some naughy kats and some presentation plac etc for Bud. This will all take time so we should plan on a date that is a couple months away..and then commit to getting busy on this. Now I sound like I'm pushing Nashville...it would be my preference..not because its close..cause it ain't...a good 7 plus hours...and yet I know thats nothing compared to some of you west coast guys...btw Terry..I think this Jim Reynolds is the one that sold you your organ?..anyway...I think we should plan on a more major show..a Nash, or Phili etc...just thought Music City would be a cool way to spend the weekend. Please get your thoughts out here..its only worth it if a majority of us can participate.. I'm excited that there are many facits in place that can be enjoyed in this reunion...with Uniroyal back in biz, Bud and family available and this group here being so active. I gotta go now..I hear my amps calling.... "Ed...come play with us...LOUD!..."

I am familiar with the Nashville fairgrounds....that show is usually in mid August which should give enough time to get things together. There are other music related things to check out as well. I know a few Kustom enthusiasts in the area that would probably check it out....and some dealers that would bring in some gear if they new a Kustom crowd was coming! Sounds good to me and I know Andy feels good about the location. Let me know if there is anything I can do! BC

Well I've been talking with the guys at Vintage Guitar ab out helping us..here is Wards latest response: "Ed, We'd consider doing an announcement of your plans once they're finalized, and then following up with a 400-500 word piece on the event afterward. So, if you have someone write it all up, I'll take it. Take care, Ward@VG" Not exactly a full feature piece, but certainly a willingness to participate...if the even turns out small then we can be grateful for this much...if we can expand the event and bring home some worthwhile pics and stories... who knows but that we can get Mike to do a full piece story. Now before I stick my foot in it any deeper I will look for interest on the part of the rest of us...I wouldn't want to ask Bud to come, or a show sponsor to extend, or VG,etc...if its only 4 or 5 guys showing up...so I guess its time for us all to do some talking on this. Each of us is closer to others in terms of regular communications..I for example haven't gotten much talk time with Brynne of FLipp, or Randy Baucus, etc..and these are important kustom guys...so I'm gonna calm down a bit and let you guys tell me if there really is an interest in all of this...its ok if not...still so glad to have all of you to share this illness with. ET!

I can send money - I can send amps - I can even send my love - but I can't make that weekend! I can't believe that I have one and only one commitment every year, and it's that weekend! Please guys, make this happen, and take a ton of pictures. I am so upset that the weekend of this event falls on that date - I even have vacation time due! AARRGGG! John

OK guys! We need to get some discussion going about this Nashville thing. We want as much participation as possible so we need Ideas and comments. What do you think? It may not be possiible to get everything done so we need a lot of input to choose from. This is still in the early stages but time will be here before we know it.......and I do not know about you, but a chance to meet Bud Ross is a BIG thing for a 30 year Kustom fan like me! What do you think? BC

Ok lets get serious, is the nashville show going to be kustom country? I have counted 5 that are willing to make the trip. We better get moving on this, as the time is running out fast.

Ok...talked with Bud and he's fine on either of the following dates Aug 19,20 or Dec 9,10 both are Jim Reynolds shows in Nashville at the fairgrounds. I know there are several of you core guys that can not make th aug show...and we all want as many as can make it to be there..so please tell me if the Dec is better..but we need to decide quickly. thanks so much...ET!

ET, either one is fine with me. A show of hands would be in order. Dec. in Michigan is the pitts anyway. Good excuse to go south, if only as far as Nashville. Don

I'll quit the Job before I would miss the December Dates! Just sold the car and bought a van and it's loaded and ready! Well, not really, but I'll rent a van and load it OK? jc

We are gigging on 19 Aug. anyway. I thought we were, hence my reluctance to commit, so the Dec. might be a better shot. Might hell, it IS better. I would commit to the December date. Like Pleat said, Any excuse to escape Illinois in the winter is a good one. Plus, IMO, knowing JC couldn't go took some of the enthusiasm out of it. Heck, I'd like ta meet ALL of you people!

sounds like we are all agreeing so far... Aug 20 is my wedding anniv..so i was really pushing my luck...Bud is in Sweden but was fine with either date when I talked with him earlier this week...so when he gets back I'll tell him that's what we are shooting for...now still working on some issues with Jim Reynolds the show sponsor...the extra side room would come at a cost of $650 plus he believes there is an insurance issue..so I've asked him for options under say a booth rental situation that would get us covered under his insurance and still give us the display room...then maybe take Andy Ross up on his offer to find us a solution for a jam session with gear...lots of contacts in music city according to him....anyway..Dec gives more time for the details so unless there are major objections that's what I'll work on... I can tell Bud is really looking forward to this..he has called several times on it..and each time he pops up with another story or two that I had never heard before...God I'm loving this!!! its a mid life crisis dream...oh and just got booked for a repeat of last years big outdoor festival thing...this is the one where I'm allowed to take all the tuck n roll i own on stage...last year is was my 4x12 cab with a 2x12 combo stacked on top..awesome.. I was running the 4x12 with an old 65 showman head..sorry....but i did also run thru the 2x12 to get those all important kustom tones with my pedal board..this year i'm hoping to include my pair of 2x12 cabs..makes me feel sorry for the bass player and his little hartke rig...might have to loan him some 2x15 bass cabs...at least a couple..would make a great looking stage! ya'll play loud...ya know i will....ET!

Nashville is roughly 2and a half hours from me so I am flexible.....just anxious to meet Bud and all of you. Mick Sutliffe and Terry Edwards could not make Aug.....I do not Know about Hal and Brando.....Randy are you watching this? Seems like Dan was hoping for a different date ....Kooler BoB and Quantrils need to jump in here as well. Looks like Dec is better. Hey ET...bass players are obligated to use the 3x15s for outdoor gigs......drives the sound man crazy! I finally had the opportunity to use a 200 and 2x15 in a band setting last night, played a resturant gig.....on the second floor.....next time it is a 100 and 2x12! BC!

Hey Brad...don't you knwo you're supposed to get structural certifications for the building before you cut loose a 200 bass rig on the 2nd floor ! and yes.. I'd love to supply the prerequisite 3x15 cabs for this bass player...alas..the only 3x15s I have are PA siren cabs.. I guess I could retrofit them for the weekend..anyone want to loan me a half dozen 15 inch speakers...the vox fox for this big gig is an old nashville gal that has toured with Bonnie Rait, Amy Grant, and my favorite Chaka just to mention a few...she resided in the same producers home and studio with Eileen (Shania) during the startup years.. she is a powerful front gal..albeit getting older like the rest of us..doing telecomm for a living and still enjoys jumping around on the weekends...the bassist is a fun guy to play with and very capable..but I sure wish it was my bud BC gonna be there.. December we gonna jam though...count on it...ET!

here's the latest word from Jim Reynolds..the Nashville show sponsor..it may seem abit confusing..he's referring to several past conversations...baically..we have two options...there is an annex room off the main show floor that would allow us to setup anyway we want..but the cost and the insurance issue would make it unreasonable..that's what he is referring to...the better choice is his $400 show fee where he'll set us up a space for display (and sale) and rope off a jam section with security that evening...among the group that cost should breakdown fairly well. here's Jim's email....Subj: Re: kustom collectors reunion Date: 7/14/00 3:07:28 PM Eastern Daylight Time From: jimreynolds@earthlink.net (Jim Reynolds) Reply-to: jimreynolds@earthlink.net (Jim Reynolds) To: ETaylorET@aol.com I'm Not sure on the insurance, for the show the cost is around $400.00, It's possible to have your reunion at the show, the jam is the only problem, I could rope of the section where the jam would be after show hours and have my security officer guard the guitar area, you and the other collectors could enter and exit when done through a side door at the conclusion. and I would locate your space at the rear. My security guard would also watch your collectors amps and guitars each night so they wouldn't have to tear down each day. space rental is $195.00 for each ten foot space with tables and electricity furnsihed. To rent the annex for 2 days would cost approx. $1300.00 plus Ins. which would make it around $1700.00 The back is 90 ft. accross and would have a wide aisle space in front to have a jam. I furnish 1 chair with ea 10 ft space, but we could borrow the others from close booth spaces for the jam. 9 spaces would cost $1755.00. and of course less if you need less space. Jim....... so you can see if we keep the spaces well below his estimate..say 3 or 4..then we should have room for plenty of rigs on display and get him to give us some jammin room Sat night...open to discussion..just trying to get things in motion for Dec... I'm working with a local trophy shop to see about getting a plaque made up for Bud with an inscribed kustom amp.. I"ll take care of that and the Uniroyal naughy kat door prizes so from there we need to see how many are able to bring rigs and do the architectaul math on floor space...ain't this fun?...ET!

Would love to get to Nashville to meet everyone but it's a seriously long ride from upstate NY so I probably won't make it - unless I happen to be in the south on business as I was earlier this year when I met Brad and Foxy. I'll sure keep it in mind. Hal

Hey guys - It appears that we need to step up here - ET has gone to a lot of trouble, and the least we can do is make up our minds. If it's going to happen, he needs to know! I, for one, am in for sure! Let's see if we can make this a go! Let him know! Jc
