Just inherited a Kustom Commander Amp from my grandfather. Any info on this amp would be greaty appreciated. Still works, has some static when turning knobs and a slight hum. Would using a 3 prong adapter for the plug help ground the plug and help with hum?....I know it has polarity switch on back which makes a big difference, but still has a slight hum. Any advice? Also would love any specs someone could give me on amp. Has original KEI speakers.
Hi,
What is the color and serial number of your Commander?
Kustom made the Commander from about July 1972 to Dec 1973.
The earliest ones had one handle on top; the later ones had two side-mounted handles.
The output power is 75 watts RMS.
The amp has two 12 inch speakers and weighs about 80 pounds.
If you go to the "Literature" section on this site, you can find your amp in the Super Series brochure.
If you turn the knobs a lot (with the amp on or off), it might halp to reduce the static when turning the knobs; if not you can use spray cleaner on the controls.
A 3-prong adapter probably would not help the hum problem.
Hopefully someone else will have some advice for you on the hum problem, if not just search this site for "hum" or "hum problem".
Good luck with your amp.

The amp is black....has a handle on each side. Serial # is 88773
Works great except for the slight hum, even sounds great with fuzz pedal hooked to it. Thanks for the help
The estimated production dates shown below are plus or minus three weeks.
But still this is sort of interesting.
The Commander made on Wednesday has one top handle.
The Commander made on Friday has two handles - one on each side.
So if they had a Thursday meeting at the Kustom factory, what do you think was one of the things they talked about?
