Harmonic Clipper Doesn't Work! [message #995] Thu, 08 November 2001 16:45 Anonymous I have a cascade K-200B-4 head with a harmonic clipper control that does nothing. I have heard that it's supposed to be a built-in distortion; is that true? (The controls on channel 2 are volume, bright, boost, clipper, bass, treble, and boost volume; channel one has reverb and trem, if that helps identify the model better). I took it to a local (Chicago) amp tech, but was told that A) he didn't have a schematic, and B) it would probably cost more to have fixed than it was worth. I've been toying with either selling it and looking for another like it, or keeping it and using it as is (though the non-working clipper would always bug me). Any ideas on what could be wrong with it? Does is sound like an easy fix, or not? If not, maybe someone out there in Kustom-land who works on their own amps might want to buy it and give it a try?? Chicago Suburb Senior Member AJK - I do not work on amps - But there is a Repair Shop in Arlington Hts that I have had good luck with in the past - It's called Midwest Audio - 847-640-1890 ~ They are a certified Kustom Amp Repair Shop - Not exactly the fastest in the world - But he has repaired a few Amps for me in the past. [message #997 is a reply to message #995] Thu, 08 November 2001 18:01 GaryH Messages: 19 Registered: January 2001 Junior Member The Harmonic Clipper is a simple fuzz-tone type circuit, and has very few parts; a single transistor and diode to make the fuzz, and two transistors that act as switches to cut off the nomal clean sound and substitute the fuzz effect. There's also a switch that is activated when the pot is turned, and that might be bad as well. A good question would be "When you turn up the Harmonic Clipper knob, does the sound cut out (bad fuzz), or does the sound stay clean, like nothing's happened(bad switches)?"
