Question on the T&R straight cabinets (that came with K150 and K250) [message #9996]

Hey everybody,
I have a question on the 2x12 and 2x15 cabinets that came with the metal face amps.
These cabinets are the ones that have the grill cloth with the silver thread and the cabs are straight - not angled (less deep at the top) like the earlier cabinets.
(Isn't it real odd that Kustom went from a straight amp cabinet to a slant amp cabinet and from a slant speaker cabinet to a straight speaker cabinet at the same time? (Both changes happened in August 1971) ....Another one of the Kustom mysteries.)

Anyway - here is my question - are the straight cabinets with silver thread grill cloth all plywood construction?
If not - what parts are particle board? - maybe the back?

Less, Out of my 5 2-15 cabs, two are the latter type and they are plywood with the same short layered plywood scrap used for the back panel center brace.
I am glad they are made of plywood not only for facture resistance, but for weight issues as my 2001 pressed board 2-15 cab weighs in at 86 lbs with the stock small magnet Jensens that came in the them. I then swapped in 2 of my Altec 421 drivers and added another 20 lbs! to the cab weight, so this cab has only been out on a gig once!

My 250 series 2x15 is all particle board except for the center brace, frame work where the back panel screws too, and I believe the baffle. Both head cabinets are particle board. I'm actually gonna make a new head cab out of the plywood b/c the particle board has given away on one.

Les....I was reading this and contemplating your research with numbers. I wonder if there is a definite S/N break on plywood vs particle board in the metal face amps. Is it time for another poll?? Cool
