I recently was given a Kustom K200b-1 and matching 2x15 cabinet. The tuck and roll models)I'd like to find out when they were made and what value they have. They are both in near mint condition. They were made in Chaute Kansas and the serial number for the head is 48303. Thanks for help!
Keith
Hi Keith,
Need some info so we can give you an idea of what it is worth.
What color are they?
What speakers are in it?
What does the jackplate on back of the speaker cabinet say?
Does the amp work well?
Your amp SN 48303 was made Friday 12/12/69 plus or minus 3 weeks.

Les,
The serial number on the cabinet is 1617. (It has pat # 210,129 CTS,and Kustom Chanute kansas on the input plate.) Both units are black. These were purchased by a church for their music ministry many, many years ago. They were stored along with several other vintage pieces of equipment. They look like they have been used very little. They work perfect other than the volume pots need cleaning. The vinyl on the cab has only a couple of very small bleamishes. I am not sure what kind of speaker is in the cabs, they have square magnets and do have the kustom name on them.( they are 15's)
Thanks, Keith
Shaun,
On this website I don't talk about guitar much because when I play guitar, people tend to leave. I don't give technical advice because when I try to be a tech it usually involves a little smoke and getting electrocuted which I like.
But they do let me do serial numbers here.
If you give me a serial number I can usually tell you the estimated production date, which is plus or minus three weeks.
If you give me the writing on the top front frame of the amp chassis (on amps after about SN 19xxx), I can (in most cases) tell you the exact production date.

Les,
Thanks for the info! This rig was getting ready to be thrown in the dumpster when I arrived at the church I got it from. They were cleaning out a storage room to make room for a sunday school class the next day. I loaded the van as full as I could get it with all kinds of sound gear. This unit looks great and sounds awesome.Do you have any idea what it would be worth?
Thanks, Keith

THROWN OUT??????????? You are one lucky ... guy. I had a different word picked out there but I thought better of it. A 2X15 K200B1 might be worth $300 - $400 or more depending on speakers and color. Black is most common and the least expensive and JBL speakers either D130's or D140's would fetch more money. The tag on the back of the speaker will tell you what was in there at the time of manufacture. Speakers routinely get changed over time. A K200B1 was mostly used for bass so CTS, and JBL D140 speakers owuld be in there. If used for guitar, Jensen, Altec and JBL D130 speakers were supplied. The same head was used for both bass and guitar. Spend some time and look over the Literature section of this site. Drool over what was available. Kustom was the most progressive amp company ever. 7 colors, almost unlimited speaker options and standard effects that others could only dream about. Have fun and continue looking.
