Hi... Just wondering if anyone knows if these Mallory Capacitors could be used as replacements for my (1974??) silver tuck and roll 2 channel guitar head with reverb??

MALLORY
Capacitors - Electrolytic

ITEM # CGS442T300X5L
MFG # CGS442T300X5L
Series CG
CAPACITOR, 4400 MFD, 300 VDC, CAN

http://www.galco.com/scripts/cgiip.exe/wa/wcat/itemdtl.r?lis ttype=Catalog&pnum=CGS442T300X5L-MALY#

As far as I can tell my capacitors are bad. I get lots of hum and random swelling of volume in and out plus the power light is very dim?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks!
eric

Circiut wise, yes they will work but you are paying for far more voltage than they need to be at 300 volts.

50 to 75 volt rated cap are plenty high.

You also need to check their size, as you did not post what amp it is you have and the K100 and frankenstein ( early k200s) amps take a different size cap from a K200 and k250 models.

K200 models that have reverb are limited in the height of replacement cap that can be used, but on the non-reverb models you can good a whole 1" taller if need be.

Hey welcome to the place.

The caps you listed may work, but as Steve noted the voltage rating is way too high. At $46.00 each you would be much better off getting the caps from Mouser or DigiKey, etc.

Let us know what amp you have and we can suggest the correct replacements and also suggest how to mount them.

I've got some caps, from mid 70's donor amps if I knew what size or model amp you have.
