Hi,
I recently purchased a k150-7 sc 2x12 combo. It is black and, according to the serial # chart, was made in Dec. 1970 (sn 64785).
It came with Celestion G12L speakers, which were apparently used in some Marshall cabs of the 80's or 90's. It sounds good, but I'm wondering if it might sound better with speakers closer to the original Jensens. Any suggestions on replacement speakers for my k150 combo?
Thanks,
Mick

I have the same K-150 and when i got it the original Jensen's were toasted, but the amp worked great. I installed a pair of vintage Eminence speakers in it and may just leave them in it as they sound great. I have the Jensen's and can get them re-coned. If you get anything, make sure they are both 4ohm so you can wire them in series or 16ohm (what it came with stock) so you can wire them in parallel and get a 8ohm total load.
I like the idea of using Eminence speakers. I put Webers in my k200 and they sound real good but I'd kinda like to try something different this time around. I may also have access to a couple of Celestion G12T-75s. Any thoughts on how Celestion speakers sound in Kustom cabs?
Can I use 2 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel for a 4 ohm load, or should it be 2 16 ohm speakers in parallel for an 8 ohm load? Thanks for the help and please pardon my ignorance.

That wants only an 8ohm load and come stock with two 16ohm speakers wired in parallel. I would not advise running it at 4ohm.
I am not a tech, but that is the stock configuration.

Its best not to run it at 4 ohms unless you are just playing it at home, and not above 3 on the volume control.
Running at 4 ohms will make the amp run twice as hot as when it was driving a 8 ohm load. Though these amps have a thermal circuit breaker(something the Frank heads do not have but should)you still stand a change of popping one of the two 35 plus year old output transistors!
Thanks a lot for all your help. The Celestions that came with the amp are 8 ohm wired parallel for a 4 ohm load, so I guess the first thing to do is replace those with the 16 ohm Celestions and see how they sound. Still interested in the Eminence, though. Anyone tried a Governor/Wizard combo?
