Hello! I recently purchased a Kasino 200 8x10 bass combo. I really don't like the tone that's coming out of it so I'd like to use my Kasino Snake Eyes head instead of the amp in the combo.

There is one 1/4" wire coming out of the speaker enclosure that plugs into the amp in the back. I need an extension (1/4" female to 1/4" male) cable because the cable coming out of the speaker enclosure isn't long enough to reach the Snake Eyes.

Is there a specific cable that I need to look for, or anything that I need to avoid? I'm no genius in this field and I really don't want to mess anything up.

Thank you in advance for your advice!

You just need a short speaker cord, such as a lamp cord, not the shielded cable you use to connect a guitar to an amp.

Kasino, didn't make a 8x10" bass amp. From your description, your model is the 802. Slotted Vents in the back. Which might be one reason you don't like the sound. During the era of your amp, Kasino bass amps were offered in a 1x15, 2x15 cab and also a folded W horn cab. The Snake Eyes amp was sold with a 2x15 cabinet.

Welcome to the place.

Like Pleat sez, you should use a cable that is made up for use as a speaker cable and not a mike or guitar cable, with a small center conductor.

The Snake Eyes head is looking for a 4 ohm load, so check the cabinet to see what it is rated at.

Thank you! The speakers inside the cab are all 8 ohms. Where can I get a speaker cable like this? I'm doubting Radio Shack will have exactly what I need.

You may need to try at a music store that carries cables and adapters.

If they don't have a 1/4" female to 1/4" male cable, you could see if they have a 1/4" female to 1/4" female adapter. Then you could use a normal male to male speaker cable.

If you have basic soldering skills, you could make one of your own.

If all your speakers are original to the cabinet and the wiring is correct, which I assume it is, the total speaker load would be 4 ohms total load to either the 802 head or the snake eyes head.

If indeed you do have the 802 amp with 8-10s that may be the reason you do not like the tone, as THE WAY the speakers are wired when there are that many does effect the tone.
that many speakers make for alot of whats called in electronic terms Inductance.
Inductance from all the voice coils of the speakers and the wiring of them be it the serise parallel way, or the parallel sersie way changes the total inductance the amp see`s, and the more Inductance the more the highs and lows get rolled off.
The serise parallel way of wiring that many speakers will make for the lest amount of inductance, of course with that many speakers and only 100 watts of RMS power you could, depending on your volume needs, just wire up 4 out of the 8 drivers and have better tone.

That's a wealth of knowledge, thank you! I've taken the (vented) back off the cab just to get the cable coming out from the speakers to reach the Snake Eyes head and after it's plugged in, the sound from the speakers is great!
The real "problem" I'm having is that I love the tone from the Snake Eyes because the thing looks like it's been through 17 World Wars and sounds like it. The 802, however, looks almost new and has been kept in immaculate condition. The tone doesn't have that natural "dirt" that I think only comes from use and neglect.
I intend to remove the amp from the combo just to make it lighter, and probably replace that open slot with a drawer or a truck grill or something else ridiculous.
If anyone has an old DMC grill from a DeLorean laying around, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

I have seen guys use short pieces of rack rail mounted on the inside and mount a power conditioner and tuner in the hole. This makes it a useful thing. If not that, take a piece of expanded metal (you know it looks like diamond have been cut out of it) and cut to fit and use a few short screw with washer to install. You can always add a small dim light behind it to make it give off any color of ambiance that you want too.

Those are really good ideas! I thought about the tuner, but having "useful things" goes against the band's aesthetic. It's like a shitty-dude beer metal thing along the lines of Witch or Red Fang. The expanded metal would be really cool. Or maybe if I could fit a cooler in there, or a swing-out cup holder?
Seriously, possibilities are endless.
