Hi, I have an old Kustom PA BC that I use with friends on a regular basis and it works fine. I'm looking for some info on the various inputs on it though...

Echo loop?
is this the same as an effects loop? I'm looking to run a feedback eliminatior through the PA an thought this would be the place to do it.

Power amp switch?
This switch says in/out...I have no idea what it does.

various sends on the front?
some say mains some say monitor...

Mostly looking for help hooking up the feedback machine as a new guy that is singing likes to move around and it really leads to some horrible squealing.

Thanks
Rusty

It sounds like you have the Kustom IIIBCA brief case 6 channel mixer that has the built in 130 watt power amp. The echo send and return is for hooking a echo unit to the mixer. I have a flyer and it shows a Expander patch panel, Monitor Input and Monitor Output. Next is Main Input and Main output. I'd hook your feedback eliminator, Main out to the feedback input, and the feedback output to the Main input. This way you are inserting the feedback eliminator between the channels and the power amp.

The power amp switch? Does it say Power On, power disconnect? If so then that switch should turn off the internal power amp and leaves the mixer channels on to feed a larger power amp. This is of course what my brochure states.

That sounds like the right one as it does have a breifcase that goes with it and 6 channels!
I'll try the main in and out on the front panel and see what happens.

Anychance you have a copy of the paperwork you are looking at? I'd love to throw it in the case for safe keeping.

The power amp says in/out and there is a recessed switch mutch like the hiZ/loZ microphone switches.

Will the Echo in/out do anything other than echo? I noticed that it does kill the spring reverb built into the unit but could I plug a guitar pedal or some other effect pedal into it just for fun?

Thanks
Rusty

Yes, you could patch in any guitar pedal as its a High Impeadance in and out circuit.
Make note that with any sort of feedback problem the amount of control you have will depend to a large degree on all the mic`s you run beening the same.
Different type mic`s have different frequency responces and different output levels at different frequencys so a setting on a feed back limiter that may leave the system still sounding and working good for one mic might leave others sounding like crap!
Also for the largest amount of clean head room before clipping you should run the master volume near wide open if the board has such control, you may get a bit more hiss noise out of the system at idle volume, but thats better than distortion on loud peaks smaking people in the face!

Power in/out is a polarity setting. If it hums/buzzes in one position, switch it to the other
