Well, the GAS struck again, so last Friday, I picked up a '69 Altec labeled 2x15 cab in blue sparkle. Excellent condition, but it's been stored for a long, long time. In removing the speakers, I've got one speaker mounting nut that was rusted to the mounting bolt so tightly that, even using Kroil, the mounting nut turned just a few turns and then the whole mounting bolt and nut started spinning. Nothing I've tried will get the nut all the way off. If I could access the speakers from the front, I could solve the problem and re-glue the bolt to stay tight. I've looked for ways to remove the grill cloth and/or frame, but nothing has seemed to be heading me in the right direction. I did loosen the several nuts that appear to hold or tighten something along the front frame inside, but short of getting one of those bolts to push outward, I'm not seeing how any of that comes apart or comes out. So, here I am looking for advice on how to remove the grill cloth/frame. Your guidance will be greatly appreciated. Smile

You have to remove the wood strips at the top and bottom on the rear of the cab (where the back panel bolts to) then remove the nuts from all around the edge of the baffle board and it will come straight back and you have to turn it on an angle to get it to slide out the back. Simple as that.

Thanks KB. I've gotten those 2 strips out and the other nuts removed. What about the middle section that supports the middle of the back panel? It feels like it's attached to the baffle board someway and is, of course, stapled to the one side of the side brace. How does it come loose? Also, need to loosen or remove the insulation? Thanks again. Smile

The center support is screwed into the baffle board with 2 screws. One is top left of the support and the other is underneath, bottom right.

You will notice that one side of the center support is short and you can leave it in place and still turn it and take it out. The long side will be attached to the back edge of the cab with staples. If the cab has insulation inside just remove it by taking out each staple. Then you should be good to go.
