Need some help with this head. When I got it a month or so ago, when turning amp on there was a hissing sound and sounded like reverb was on even when dial was turned all the way down. Got tired of hearing the "tank" so I unplugged it. Echo, rattling sound was gone but hissing was still there. Today I received my "generic" footswitch and it worked like a charm. It turned reverb circuit off and hissing stop and amp is now quiet thank God. So what do I need to start looking for as to be able to use the reverb again. Even when tank was plugged in, very poor excuse for a reverb sound if at all.....sounded like a blown speaker.....crackling, garbage sound and not a clean reverberation at all. Seems to be a common problem with all Kustom amps since almost everyone I see for sales says reverb doesn't work. Where do I start and don't say get another amp. Know Pleat doesn't care for this head, but it does play bass nicely and now that it is quiet, sounds better than my studio Peavy. Ol Great One's, enlighten me please. Smile

PS....inspected tank and springs are all intact and not touching the tank, wires are all in place, noticed that the top is open and no cover on it. Is there suppose to be something there? Guessing there must be something wrong in the reverb circuit board since hissing was still there when tank was disconnected. Appreciate as always your help.....remember I am not an electronic's expert so keep it in layman's terms for me please. Thanks

Most 95 series amps are Frank heads, but I assume from your description that you have an early 200A circuit. You have isolated the problem to the reverb circuit so start there. Does the board have a pc number? Do you think that the tank is original or a replacement? Is there a code number on the tank?

If using the footswitch stops the noise, you need to see what parts in the circuit can be causing the noise. If you have a pc number we can look up the schematic and get down to specific parts.

Pretty sure its of the 200 series like you said. As to tank- questionable. Unit must have been dropped at one time because one of the support tubes was bent pretty good and I straightened it back out and one corner of the tank was bent, also straightened that out as well. Definitely not a Frank.

What about the tank itself, is there suppose to be a cover of some sort over the top of it?

I'll get into the innards this weekend and get some numbers for you. Appreciate the quick response back tonight......we are definitely getting old. Home on a Friday night......CRAP!!!!!!!

Tell me about it...this old age stuff is really cramping my lifestyle.

The tank should have a thin foam cover over the open side of the tank. If the tank is mounted on the tubes then it's an K200A head.
