I watched the documentary about The Wrecking Crew a couple nights ago which had great footage of those L.A. session players with interviews all thru the 60's & 70's......Saw a tall blue Kustom in the recording studio, but couldn't see what it was....Anybody see it?

Carol Kaye was the most prominent L. A session bass player in the group of musicians called "The Wrecking Crew" in the early 60's thru mid 70's featured in the documentary.... and still doing session work today. She is on bass on Sonny & Cher's "The Beat Goes On" and hundreds of other #1 hits of the era.
Duck Dunn was based in Memphis with Staxx records and Steve Cropper and that bunch. Seems like I remember in a different documentary Duck talking about also doing L. A sessions, but he wasn't in the documentary featuring "The Wrecking Crew"...,,.
I've been wanting to see that film as soon as I had heard about it. I understand that it is out on DVD now.
Carol Kaye not only played the bass line for The Beat Goes On, she wrote the line, which changed the entire song. She's also a great guitar player as well, but with guys like Tommy Tedesco around she got lots more work playing the bass on thousands of hit records.
If any of you guys haven't seen it or read Hal Blaine's book, I strongly suggest that you do. If you are a fan of the '60s music you'll be surprised (or maybe not) that they played on all of those hits back in the day.
The Brian Wilson movie that was just out sorta owes a lot to the Wrecking Crew movie, as it showed the real film from the sessions and not the Hollywood recreations.
