Hi I am your newest member ,and hoping someone can help me with the ohm rating of amp model# k 200b-5, as some offered me a 2x15 speaker rated at 4ohms w/out mdl.# ? Is the wise one out there ? Before I buy incompatible componets, Please help

Hello and welcome !
You k200 head wants a 4 ohm load to output its full 100 watts RMS of clean power, with a 8 ohm speaker load it will output some 74 watts of clean power.

Welcome to the site as well. What color is your amp? You might want to pull the back off of any used speaker cabinets that you might be interested in. As we all know on here what is printed on the info plate isn't necessarily what's inside. You might have bass speakers or guitar speakers or combination of both; and ohm rating can be anything as well. I recently bought a 2-15's cabinet that said 4 ohm on it, and stupid me, didn't listen to my own advice, it had two 16 ohms speakers in it and they were bass and not guitar like I was led to believe. Live and learn. If you play bass and run it thru guitar speakers, you will be replacing them soon. And bass speakers don't have the frequency range that guitar speakers do......just so you know.

After forty years of time, it really is rare to find any of the speaker cabs that haven't been altered to some degree.

The K200B-5 head was originally marketed as a PA amp, 4 channels with reverb on all channels. Because they were designed for high impedance mikes, they aren't all that popular for PA use nowadays.

The basic circuits in all of the heads were all very similar regardless of how they were marketed, so now these old PA heads get used for guitar and other instruments.

What do you plan to use your head for, guitar, bass, PA?

Hey Bill you just brought up a point that hadn't occurred to me. Since Kustom used high impedance mics on their pa's, are there currently wireless mic's available that are high impedance?

I don't do a lot of repairs on them so I don't really keep up, but most of the ones that I see have a receiver that will output either high level low impedance or low level high impedance.

The high impedance would plug into the front of a guitar amp and the low impedance into a PA mixer. Most of the receivers and transmitters are made to work with microphones or instruments.

Well my pa is made up of all the kustom T&R and right now I do have an old Shure mic that I rewired to make it high impedance so it would work with what I have. Was thinking about going wireless for both.... the bass since I am constantly stepping on the cord and pulling it out. Mic wise, I'd like to go to a wireless headset so that I can move around and not be confined to one spot so to speak and one less cord to trip over.

I want to thank all who replied and welcomed me. I ultimately hope to have a bass rig, but the price seemed right so I hopped in with two feet. All of your and others information has been helpful. Hay Dave just to give you a heads up. If you get the chance and you have a little extra $$$$ you might want to opt out for a K-250 bass head. There is a noticeable difference in the sound between what you have and what the 250 will do. The bass head will have NO effects on it other than the selectone switch....2 channels and 8 pots total, none of the smaller knobs on the right side of the unit....those are guitar amps. I have seen them listed as cheap as $100 on Guitar Centers web site. Play one once and you'll never go back to the 200 again....ever. Use it for back up amp. I have two of the 250's and love them to death....

Speakers to look for: Altec 421 absolutely rocks the house. We all on here like JBL's D-140; Kustom's original CTS are okay but I think a little on the tinty side for me......all of these are no longer being manufactured today but available on ebay now and then. Going for new.....Eminence Delta's are good, solid speakers that have good range and won't break the bank. Think Stevem has also suggested Weber speakers for bass and maybe he'll chime in. Stay clear of the bargain basement speakers that are cheap.....you get what you pay for and you will be soooo disappointed in the sound your not getting. Find a cabinet you like and is in reasonable shape and priced fairly.....you find something and want to know what is worth, just ask. Even if the speakers it has aren't the best, you can always change them out for one of the above mentioned.

Your now associated with an awesome aray of Kustom Kats. These guys are just the best and we are all over the country including out in fact. Lots of information on this site and new info is shared constantly and the occasional gripe or too when someone has a bad hair day. Shout out when you need help or just add your two cents........beer is always welcome.
