Pleats the man to talk to about it. This year was the 50th anniversary I guess of Kustom, so it was sad that nothing could be put together. I know he has told me that it is hard to plan something like this since our members are spread all over the country and in other countries now as well. Finding a place to hold it and making plans does entail a lot of work. I think it would be a hoot to hold one in Vegas, I think everyone would give up a weekend to do that. If something can be put together, I know I will be there. Guess what it comes down to is how many people actually want to do this and are willing to help out.

To be honest, what it normally comes down to is there is a lot of talk about it and then it all goes dead and that is that. We have been to Chanute more than once and are done with that now. We had one in Indy and We did it in Virginia at Terry's house (who has the largest collection of anyone, HANDS DOWN) and now it needs to be at another place that is in the central US so everyone on the East coast and west coast can come a semi equal distance. We've offered to do it in Michigan where you have Pleat, myself and one other Kollector and then everything goes quiet. So it kind of is what it is at this point. It is very very difficult to get everyone to agree on the place to have it.

I'd love to attend another get together and Terry has offered to host another this year in or about the month of September but nothing definite enough to actually plan with or secure vacation time with to attend. I don't care where it happens... Chanute is easy and central but we haven't had consistance with local support. Without a definite date I can't schedule vacation with the assurance I can actually plan with reasonable hope of attending. I'm game if we can get a date setup b4 too much time expires. I have to select my vacations this weekend so I'll be reasonably locked in to mine at that point unless I can work out a deal at a later date.

Mike, welcome to the site. We've had 3 reunions in Chanute the original home of Kustom. The main collectors are located in at least 12 different states. Our first convention was in 2000 in Nashville with 9 collectors hauling as much Kustom gear as we could. About 110 pieces. We flew in Bud Ross for the weekend and had a great time. The second show was in 2001 in Indy with a few new collectors. 2004 was in Dallas. 2009, 2010 was Chanute. 2011 was at a collectors home in Indy. 2012 we found ourselves back in Chanute. 2014 some of the collectors met in VA.
The hurdles are of course the date, building, and location. Maybe this would be the site to get some feedback on a location, and if someone local can scout a building that could host the event. Some things to consider are security and insurance if someone were to get injured.
Nashville is about a 12 hour drive or less for about 11 of us, so that would cover most everyone east of the Mississippi. It just seems that everyone is on board if it's in their back yard so to speak.

I think we need to set up a members roster so we know which state everyone lives in. Next we need to know how many people are actually interested in getting together and are actually willing or able to help out. Think if there is enough interest shown, we can determine where the best location would be and then go from there. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if there is a room full of the equipment or not. I think if everyone just had pictures, that a power point presentation could be done. I think if Stevem or ChicagoBill could do a tech talk and there was an amp head or two to go over, that would be beneficial to everyone. Call it Kustom 101 for dummies. A question and answer session would be cool too. If we could get enough interest going, I see no reason why we couldn't get some venders involved as well. I've never been to any of the reunions so I really don't know what was done in the past. I see no reason why this couldn't be done just like a business seminar. Those are my suggestions. Any other ideas out there?

Lots of good ideas. Nothing "big" on technical stuff has been done in the past; just whatever discussions were held among guys. Besides available time and all at the same time, the cost of a venue is a pretty big factor. And like Pleat says, insurance would be needed to cover not only personal injury, but equipment as well if guys take amps, etc. I've attended all but 1 of the get togethers since 2009 and have loved every one. Believe me, 2-3 days flies by. Wish we could do an entire week.

Actually, setting this up in a banquet hall at a Best Western or something similar would be the way to go. Insurance is covered by hotel as well as your own personal insurance will cover any loss as to equipment. The rooms can be secured. Pricing could also include in house dinners as well as accommodations. Pretty much the same as scheduling a wedding. Pricewise, that is the way to go.

Also thinking that if venders are brought in, this would be a way to get more people interested in the Kustom line as well as musicians who don't know Kustom. Get some distributors from JBL, Peavy, Kustom, any of the big companys as well as music stores like Guitar Center or who ever is in the area of the event involved could generate more interest as well as help pay for the cost of all this. Not to mention learning about the new equipment that is out there and possibly some freebie things we could use as a drawing. Lots of possibilities of doing something like this that could turn into a really big event in time. I really don't know of any trade shows that are geared towards musicians. This could possibly lead to a new trend.

This has always been a problem...South Florida is good for you (and maybe a few others), but not for the majority.
