I was going to bid on it, but I felt that there was just too much wrong/missing for the price it got up to.

Exactly what is that thing? I saw it and didn't have a clue what it was.

It's a Theremin. It is a musical instrument that you play without touching it. It has an antenna that controls the frequency and a side plate that controls the volume.

The closer you move your hand to the antenna the higher the pitch. The volume antenna works the opposite way. Touching the plate kills the sound. As you move your hand away from the plate the volume increases.

There are very few people that have become masters of the instrument. Clara Rockmore was one. If you search there are all sorts of videos showing how they work. Most people have heard a theremin used for the eerie music played in the background of old sci-fi or monster movies.

Kustom came out with one back in the late '60s. I have never seen one in person and have only seen photos of two of them. As far as I know, they are one of the rarer things that Kustom ever made.

I would have liked to have bought that one and fixed it up, but there were too many missing parts like the pitch antenna to make me want to invest in it as a project.
