Picked up a gold Frankie C895 and upon further inspection, the tag says charcoal.
Wondered if it was just a factory error (the tag is behind the metal screening.)
and someone put the wrong color cab on that chassis.
Or maybe somewhere along the road someone had a couple of frankies and swapped
them out? Maybe liked one's sound better and liked gold??? I don't think so but.... who knows..... OK by me I like the gold!
Any thoughts or opinions?

After 50+ years who knows? The chassis was probably swapped at some point.

It could have been swapped because of the effects. The owner liked the charcoal cabinet but wanted one with (or without) reverb and or vibrato.

Or it was sent back to the factory for service and the chassis was switched to get the repair done.

I have a charcoal 250 head that has yellowed so much that you would think it was originally gold!

Hi Steve,
Can you tell that your 250 cab (that yellowed) was charcoal on the inside
where it was out of the light?

Yes, on a head if you remove the feet, or on the speaker cabs if you pull off one of the castor mounting brackets.

Well I'll be...... was cleaning the Frankie cab I THOUGHT was gold and when I got
Frank in the sunlight I could see on the bottom that it indeed a charcoal
cab when built 52 years ago.
Even the naug folded inside is gold colored.
Amazing what the light, I'm assuming can do. I would have bet this was a gold cab.
Good thing I don't gamble much these days!
I'll say one thing those gals in the factory must have had Popeye forearms from all
the staples they put in these cabs let alone all the screws in the speaker cabs!
Well built indeed!
I have a silver Frankie and cab that must
have lived in a cave, as they are as silver as can be,
the continuing saga of Charcoal Frank N. Roll.....

The shift in tint is not from light in these cases , it due to the clear plastic in the vinyl aging.
Have you every seen how 3 year old unused clear packing tape goes yellow, its the same deal!

Hi Steve,
That makes sense but why do some change and some don't?
I have a silver Frankie and cab that are silver as can be.
Now a charcoal turned to gold
Any theories, thoughts or maybe it's just what it is..... : )
All I know (which isn't much) is 50+ years later and these
are STILL the coolest amps out there.....

I've seen silver amps that have sat in a smoky bar for years and you'd swear it is true gold. Remove a handle or metal glide and see pure silver color. In fact I bought one that I thought was gold and it was silver from the factory.
