I bought this head under the premise it "didn't work". But when I asked the novice who owned it what symptoms it gave, I knew right out the gate it was a simple tube replacement. Lo and behold, EXACTLY that! So I'm the owner of this EXTREMELY hard to find KUSTOM head. As in.. I CHALLENGE ANYONE.. TO SCOUR THE NET..AND FIND ANOTHER.. it's LITERALLY... impossible.. for me anyway.. well, at any rate... I'm an extended range metal player.. and KUSTOM DOES have some unsung heroes in that realm.. but this is NOT one of them.. although it does take pedals BEAUTIFULLY!.so yeah..now I'm letting it go, at a negotiable rate.. but was looking for $300 on it.. which is good for ANY full sized tube head..moreover a rare one. But hey.. we can find a happy medium I'm sure.
so, the vintage original stuff was all solid state which differentiated Bud Ross's gear from others on the market... more power and volume and more stable and reliable.
the tube Kustom stuff came later under different Kustom era and owners
an old friend of mine had this exact amp, and it rocked! Kustom had the solid state pre-amp technology nailed better than many of the other hybrid late-comers, and the power section was beefy and powerful. There were also combo versions, as well as 100 and 150watt models, with up to SIX 6L6GC power tubes! Yowza! Take THAT, Fender!
Is this amp still available? I'd love to have one!
