Hi! Your basic first question about the foot switch cable end is easy to answer , but the following question you will likely ask is much harder to answer and here's why!

Ok, the - 4 model amps use a five pin Male XLR connector on the end of the foot switch cable which as you know means the amp has the Female version on the rear of the chassis.
Now getting a new 4 button foot switch may be a problem, but you can always just use two 2 button foot switch's.

The other two issues is that the factory foot switch had Lamps or LEDs to tell you when a effect was on.
These where powered off of the amps internal positive 12 volt supply and it will be in my opinion near impossible to find a currently made today to use as a sub, so you may just have to forfeit having that light function.

I will have to get back to you as to how the amp is connected up pin wise to the Male XLR end of the foot switch since I will have to open up one of my amps to look at it.

Kustom did two versions of the K250-2 and K250-4 amps. The earliest versions used the XLR lighted footswitch plugs. The later versions, Kustom used 1/4" stereo jacks to connect the non lighted footswitches. On the K250-4 amps, Kustom used two 1/4" stereo jacks to control the effects, plus the 3rd, 1/4" stereo jack to connect the wah pedal.
The early XLR versions used the case of the plug for ground. Pin 1 red is 12V, Pin 2 White is Trem/Vib, Pin 3 Green is Reverb, Pin 4 Blue is Boost, and Pin 5 Orange is Fuzz.
The same pin arrangement for the K250-2 as well but pins 3-4-5 and not used.

Hi Dan, thanks for the info. I have finished up a set of effects control footswitches for US Vox and UK Vox solid state amps, decided to do the same for the k250's I have. Do you have a source for the parts you use like PartsExpress?
also do you know if the Fuzz effect should be louder when enabled? I haven't seen an answer to that question yet. Would be nice if it was, on some of the UK Vox amps, they are, you hit the distortion button and you get a DB boost for soloing, which would make it great if the Kustom did that. Why have a volume control if it didnt...

Thanks Pleat, any recommended suppliers?
I just built a pile for Vox SolidState amps, in fact used a small Kustom four button for the super beatle. I typically dont turn of the reverb, so I can get away with a 3 button, which are not too hard to find and on the K250-2 a single button.

question about the fuzz, is it supposed to do a volume boost?

There is a seperate boost function in the - 4 heads from the fuzz, and since they all go to ground I guess internally within the amp you could land the pink and brown wires to each other and get the fuzz and boost on at the same time.

My two dash 2 heads use pin 2 for the 12 volt hot and pin 1 is ground, so I would first open up your -4 and confirm what lands where, because none of my schematics show the wiring for the foot switch side of either of these amps.

The original XLR jack on the amp was not a Neutrix so I do not know if the pins will line up, nor if they are the same diameter .

If you have a 6 pin XLR connector, The layout should be,
Pin 1 Black Ground,
Pin 2 Red +Voltage
Pin 3 White Trem/Vib
Pin 4 Green Reverb
Pin 5 Blue Boost
Pin 6 Orange Fuzz
This is taken from the K250-4 Lighted Footswitch schematic.

HI All, thanks for the answers, My Fuzz question needs to be further defined. The K-4's have two controls for the FUZZ, Effect and Level. Effect I think is the amount of fuzz mixed into the signal, The Level I am not sure of. Most fuzz or distortion boxes once you get past 50% or so, you hear a perceived and sometimes real boost in volume. How is this one supposed to work, typically on mine, the Level needs to be at 100% and I get a volume drop from when the fuzz is disabled. Is this the way it works or should there be a volume increase past some point. If that's the way it works no volume increase has anybody in the group modified the circuit to perform a volume boost?
