I've been thinking of getting a 2x15 cab for bass, and one came up on Craigslist for $100 with CTS speakers - but it has no chrome or aluminum port tubes, just the holes in the grillcloth. Are those things (or suitable substitute) available anywhere?

You might want to count the T&R across the top of the cabinet. 11 T&R would be a Frankie cab. 12 T&R would indicate the K200A series cab which came with optional Aluminum port tubes or the less expensive cab with port holes cut in the baffle board. Kustom first did an upcharge of 20.00 per cab and soon they dropped the upcharge and all later cabs came with port tubes.

I don't know where you would find the port tubes. I've seen a few come up for sale on EBay in the past.

It's a 12-pleat cabinet. And it's not just the kind with holes you can see behind the grillcloth, this one actually had the port tubes, and someone removed them. Looks terrible. Good price, but I just don't think could stomach looking at it all the time. What a shame.

I see you can get plastic port tubes that look very similar - several of them at partsexpress, but nothing that looks like the correct size. I think if I could get a couple of those and spray the outside ring so it at least looks like the aluminum tubes, that would be sufficient. Just need to find some in the correct size.

I the auto restoration field there are services that can re- chrome plastic.
There are also pretty good chrome spray paints that will do the same and last a good long time if you then spray on a clear epoxy top coat.

Thanks, Steve. The Craigslist listing has disappeared, so it's a moot point now, but good to keep in mind if I were to run into another deal like that. I also searched for port tubes and found a bunch of sources on the internet that sell them, but nothing in the correct size.
