Hey all!

I have a Kustom 2x12 guitar cab and was wanting to throw some bass speakers in it. But it got me thinking, before I drop the cash on some bass drivers, are there any differences between the cabinets of a 2x12 guitar cab and a 2x12 bass cab? Are the dimensions different? Thanks!

-Matthew

The cab's are the same .
Depending on the year the K100 was made if it was for guitar the speaker jack plate will say Jensen on it.
If it was for Bass all the years will say CTS.

The very late cabinets for guitar will say KEI.

If it was ordered with the optional up graded guitars speakers it will say Altec.

Yeah, my cab says Jensen on it.

But I was just curious if the bass cabs were built different for optimal tone. But I guess not. I'm thinking of swapping in some 350Watt drivers to use the cab for smaller shows.

Thanks!

So its still not clear to me by your post, are you looking to play basst thru the cab or guitar,

If for bass then most 350 watt drivers that do not have Neo magnets have very large magnet structures and this only serves to eat up internal cab volume that's all ready on the small side for bass guitar.

You need to learn to pick your drivers be they for bass or guitar by there VAS spec first and there wattage rating second and then the sensitivity rating.

For example the original Jensen C12N drivers in that cab where rated at 97.5 DB at 1 watt at 1 meter distance.

I am looking to swap out the original Jensen guitar speakers with a pair of bass speakers.

The speaker I am looking at is the Eminence "DELTA-12LFA 12" American Standard Series Speaker" I'm looking at this driver because the head I plan to use with this is a 300 Watt all tube head. Hence the need for the high wattage.

These are all the specs off their website.

Those should work just fine, but do not expect that small of a cab to carry the B string of a 5 string bass all that well if your playing such.

Your not making things easy on yourself carrying around a 300 watt all tube head.
That must weight in at close to what the cab weighs!?😁

Its an 80Lbs head haha. I know it isn't easy. I just don't have the room for a 4x10 or 2x15 cab right now.

I only run a 4 string bass.

I shot eminence an email with the internal dimensions of the Kustom to see what they think is the best speaker for the job.

Since I have both cabs (1-15" and 2-12" ) I can tell you that the cab with 1-15" sounds best for Bass, but it's a job to yank out the old baffle and make a new one.
