The first consideration when using a distortion pedal ( be it SS or tube types) in front of a SS amp is to not push the input level up any higher then what your straight in volume would be at .

Reason you ask?
Because you can blow out the input gain stage by driving it with too hot a signal level.

This then means you set up the amp and pedal such that your needed solo volume is achieved when your guitar or volume pedal is wide open, you then kick off the stomp box and back down on your volume for your clean sound.

Also since that is a 2 channel amp you can get a A/B type stomp box and use the normal channel for your clean
Sounds.

As far as the distortion pedal goes I would look at only tube types that have a really good wide EQ section in them.

My mistake. It was an overdrive pedal I was in need for. My music style is old rock, but thanks for your answer.

Hi! I would recommend trying one the the "Character Series" from Tech 21. They seem to be flying under the radar, but they are extremely versatile pedals. I have the "Oxford" (Orange Amps) and the "Hot Rod Plexi" pedals on my board at the moment, and they cover everything I need. They also have great tone controls, the "Character" control which allows you to really dial in tons of different sounds, plus built-in Sans-Amp circuitry. They pair up well with Kustom amps, too.
Anyway, I would suggest you give one of those a try sometime.
