Speaker Impedance question! [message #6816]

Hey!
I have a Kustom Lead III SC 2x12 combo. I want to just use the speakers as a 2x12 for my recently purchased JCM800 100w combo.

Does anybody know the impedance and brand of the speakers?

Hi, The speakers are probibly 8 ohms each, wired in parellel for 4 ohms. As far as the brand, may be CTS or Eminence.If CTS they will have a 137 plus 3 other digets stamped on them. if eminence they will have a 67 a space then 4 other digets.I do not know about your marshall combo. My guess is that it has 2 8 ohm speakers wired in serise for 16 ohms. tube amps sound best at their highest impeadance setting if they offer differing ones, how ever unlike a SS amp, a tube amp will only put out its full wattage when the speaker and amp impeadance match.If you hook up the 4 ohm kustom and a 16 ohm marshall you get 3.4 ohms, too low a impeadance even if the marshall has a 4 ohm tap. You will have to rewire the kustoms drivers to be in serise to get 16 ohms, and then if the marshall is 16 ohms you will have to set the marshall for 8 ohms.If they are all 8 ohm speakers, the only 2 impeadances you can wire all 4 of them for will be 8 or 16 ohms.
