I just got my K200, and it looks to be in pretty good shape, just 3 questions about it...
1 - how can I tell if it's a 200A or 200B? The model # is 3-15C-1.
2 - any idea on age? serial no. is 15606.
3 - the output transformer (I think that's what it is, the giant black box on the right hand side with the front panel facing you) has come loose (the metal tabs broke off) at two of it's points. Can I use some angle brackets to reattach it to the amp? Can I unscrew any of the screws that go through the whole thing and hold it together in order to attach the brackets to the transformer?
Thanks in advance,
eli

Kustom did some weird things with model numbers in the early days.....sometimes the price was the model number.....such as 595, 695, 795 etc.....yours came a little later when the model indicated speaker configuration. Yours indicates it was a 3x15 CTS speaker model...( I think they used "J" for Jensen and "L" for JBL speakers )and I will venture to guess it has no effects since it came with the bass type cabinet. However it can be used as guitar or any function as the amps are voiced the same and effects were added for different applications. It is an early model like and "A" series amp. It should say "By Ross Inc" in small letters on the front under the "Kustom" logo... early 68 vintage will be close maybe late 67. You can check the "pots" (volume and tone controls) for dates and have a better idea. Congrats...be proud...and as ET says PLAY LOUD! BC!

Hey Eli! A little more on model number.....as I look at your post again I clearly see 3-15C-1. The 3 indicates the number of speakers....the 1 indicates that the head has no added effects. A 4-15L-2 would have been an amp with two 2x15 JBL loaded cabinets and reverb and trem. Later this would have been a K200A-2 with no speaker designation. Check me out here Pleat! Is my info good?
Sorry I cannot advise on the transformer as I am not a tech! Just a player who collects and loves Kustoms! BC

The through bolts on the transformer can be removed and angle brackets installed. There may be a small chance that the varnish holding the laminations of the transformer together will crack. But the only problem that will create is the transformer may develop a slight buzz that would be audible ONLY externally from the amp. The buzzing will not be in the speaker or bother the overall tone of the amp. It would be like the buzzing of a fluorescent ballast. Go for it.

Wow! Thanks for the great info, everyone.
i don't see any rust on the transformer, just some dust which I'll use some spray air to get rid of. The transformer also looks to have *never* been mounted with rivets as there are what appear to be factory holes drilled through the bottom of the sheet metal of the amp.
I'll go by my local hardware store and purchase bolts and lock washers to go with the angle brackets. I have no doubt that that will keep it fairly sturdy.
any other suggestions?
