I've had this amp for many years and it has served me well, but now it needs some attention. When powered up the sound is distorted but clears after several min. It does not clear to full volume. Any and all guidance will be greatly appreciated.

It could be something as easy as a dirty master volume control, or a semiconductor going bad. hard to say with out having the unit in front of me, and may be having a schematic for it too.

Thanks for the reply Steve, The pots have been cleaned and the finals seem to test fine, (ohmmeter test). I have a schematic on the way. In your experience do Kustoms experience biasing problems with age? How well do the RC4558P op-amps hold up in the Kustoms? This is the only Kustom amp that I have owned. It's been a beauty, shoulda bought more. Thanks again Lou

I have never owned a kustom with that chip in it. I have a bunch of K250s and they use a different 14 pin chip. Like any chip they can be very upset by stray static charges and low or high power supply voltages.

If it helps anyone , I replaced the preamp op-amp's with oem replacements. The new generation op-amps are clearer. This solved the problem Thanks for the response, your site really kicks!

Where did you get a schematic for your PA head?
